YesAsia Editorial Description
Co-starring Max Mok and Rosamund Kwan, Once Upon A Time In China II is a spectacular kung-fu epic that mixes historical pageantry with amazingly choreographed martial arts action. Legendary action director Yuen Woo Ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) handles the outstanding fight sequences, including an incredible climactic showdown between Jet Li and Donnie Yen! Tsui Hark's Once Upon A Time In China II is a worthy sequel to one of the seminal Hong Kong films, and is considered by many to be better than the original!

Professional Review of "Once Upon a Time in China II (1992) (Blu-ray) (4K Ultra HD Remastered Collection) (Hong Kong Version)"
This professional review refers to Once Upon A Time In China II (Blu-ray) (Hong Kong Version)
September 1, 1895: a cadaverous little girl stares at the camera. Holding a candle she walks across a pitch black hall, singing: "King of Heaven/Ruler of Hell/Unite with the White Lotus Sect/So your country is safe." Lights up on hundreds of white-clad White Lotus Cultists. There follows a bullet-defying martial arts display and Priest Kung appears. Nothing can kill him. A bonfire is built of Western objects, including a Dalmatian. "Kill all foreigners," the cultists chant, "so we can live in peace." The bonfire is lit. Staring into the roaring flames the little girl smiles. So begins Once Upon a Time in China 2, Tsui Hark's dark continuation of the Wong Fei-hung legend. Far from home, Wong Fei-hung (Jet Li), servant Leung Foon (Max Mok, replacing Yuen Biao), and Aunt Yee (Rosamund Kwan) travel to Canton to attend a medical conference. When they arrive, Canton is a city on fire. Red Guard-like White Lotus Cultists run rampant, destroying all signs of Westernization. The local Governor (Donnie Yen) is trying to smoke out two revolutionaries in the midst of all this chaos: the very real Sun Yat-sen, and his right-hand man, Luke. Wong Fei-hung and company find themselves trapped in the claustrophobic city, cut off from home by the winds of political change. The whole film takes place over 48 hours, and Tsui Hark attacks his material like nothing on earth can stop him, packing every frame with nightmarish imagery. As Chinese turns against Chinese, and Canton capsizes under the weight of superstition and fear, good men like Wong Fei-hung and Sun Yat-sen can only watch from the sidelines in horror. All the pieces of the series we've come to expect are in place: the two-pronged plot, the rousing theme song (yes, that is Jackie Chan singing it), Leung Foon's puppy love for Aunt Yee, and Wong Fei-hung's fierce devotion to her. But this time around things have a darker bent. The movie ends on an optimistic note, but the body count is high, and the future is still uncertain. Max Mok does a credible job replacing Yuen Biao, but he's overshadowed by the other two additions to the cast. Donnie Yen projects a quietly decaying dignity as Governor Lan, and his martial arts skills are as sharp as ever. But the showstopper is the wonderfully lopsided Xiong Xin-xin (Jet Li's stunt double) as the despotic Priest Kung. Ferocious to the point of rabidity, he’s the kind of villian who leads a cult as easily as some of us chew gum. By Grady Hendrix |

This is a great film. The blu ray is a step up over the dvd in quality and worth buying again in this format. Although below par picture quality the source matearial was always very washed out. Without a colour regrading restoration this is about as good as it will look. Like wise the audio is pretty tame stuff. Given the global appeal of these classic hong kong movies its pretty shocking that more effort is not put in to restoring them properly instead of sticking them straight out to make a quick buck. As it stands kam and ronson are sitting on a goldmine of movies but continue to churn out a stream of poor blu ray discs. |

As in its predecessor, "Once Upon a Time In China 2" is freighted with a mind-bogglingly complex set of interweaving plots. Set in Guangzhou during the waning days of the Qing dynasty, the film delivers the crazed White Lotus Clan determined to eliminate any foreign influence from China, nationalist rebels led by Sun Yat-Sen, and a police commander played by Donnie Yen who has an agenda all his own. Jet Li's Wong Fei Hung travels from Foshan to Guangzhou to give a lecture on on Chinese traditional medical practices to a group of Western doctors. The lecture soon comes under assault from the White Lotus Clan, who also take umbrage at the Western ways of the lovely Aunt 13 (Rosamund Kwan). With this attack, the action turns fast and furious and seldom lets up.
All the intertwining schemes make the movie feel a bit overstuffed, but it ultimately boils down to two big action set-pieces, one between Wong Fei Hung and the leader of the White Lotus Clan (Xiong Xin Xin) and the other between Wong Fei Hung and Donnie Yen's evil Commander Lan. Both scenes are spectacular and make the film a must-see for fans of the genre. Jet Li is more grim-faced and serious than usual in this film; Rosamund Kwan, as usual, makes an appealing damsel in distress. The romantic tension between the pair provides a sweet counterpoint to all the scheming and fighting. David Chiang also does a nice turn as a valiant supporter of Dun Yat-Sen. |

Finaly part two was made.I've been waiting to see it. And now I own it.Wong Fei-Hung(Jet Li),Aunt Yee(Rosamund Kwan),and Fu(Max Mok Siu Cheung) are in Canton.China has a problem with the White Lotus. The White Lotus are tricking people to jion their team by telling them that Kung is as hard ass metal and rock.Wong kicks the White Lotus asses and later on Wong wants to challenge the master Kung(Xiong Xin Xin).As Wong calls out Kung and a desperate fight Wong defets Kung.As wong and his buddy went to get the thing. Commander Lan(Donnie Yen) approaches and fights Wong.A very desperate fight with Wong & Lan.Fu is hurt so Wong gets even more angry and Fu-Shian No-Shadowkick to Lan and cut him on the traot.Wow that was amazing for me.The new themes that they made are even better than the one in the first one. |
