Directed with the characteristic warm and quirky touch of Okita Shuichi (Ora, Ora Be Goin' Alone), the youth film One Summer Story is based on the award-winning manga Kodomo wa Wakatte Agenai by Tajima Retto. Kamishiraishi Moka (A Forest of Wool and Steel) and Hosoda Kanata (Almost a Miracle) star in this film that blends coming-of-age, family and mystery elements into an unforgettable summer story. Chiba Yudai, Furutachi Kanji, Saito Yuki and Toyokawa Etsushi also appear in the film.

High school students Minami (Kamishiraishi Moka) and Moji-kun (Hosoda Kanata) hit it off because of their shared love for a particular anime. Through Moji-kun, Minami hears about the origins of a mysterious talisman that she believes was sent to her by her biological father, who disappeared when she was younger. With the help of Moji-kun's private detective older brother (Chiba Yudai), she then learns that her father (Toyokawa Etsushi) is the leader of a religious group. Together, Minami and Moji-kun embark on an unexpected summer journey to find Minami's father.
