Three years after The Golden Era, Ann Hui returns with another prestige wartime historical drama in Our Time Will Come, which won Best Film and Best Director at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards. Inspired by real-life events and figures, the film is set in 1940s Hong Kong when the city was under Japanese occupation. In these difficult times, everyday people would rise to the moment to fight for Hong Kong's freedom. Zhou Xun, Deanie Ip, Eddie Peng and Wallace Huo star as people of different backgrounds who become involved in the resistance. Nagase Masatoshi, Guo Tao, Jiang Wenli, Jessie Li and Ivana Wong are also part of the film's esteemed ensemble cast, along with many cameos and special appearances including Tony Leung Ka Fai as a present-day storyteller looking back on those unforgettable times.

With Hong Kong under occupation, school teacher Lan (Zhou Xun) finds herself without a job and increasingly estranged from her sweetheart Jin Rong (Wallace Huo), who seems to have plans of his own. She lives with her mother (Deanie Ip), who is renting out a room to novelist Mao Dun (Guo Tao). With agents closing in, Mao Dun and other prominent literary figures in hiding must sneak out of Hong Kong with the help of underground resistance fighters. Lan gets unwittingly pulled into guerrilla Hei Zai's (Eddie Peng) mission to protect Mao Dun, and joins the movement herself soon after. Despite her mother's worries, Lan calmly devotes herself to the resistance and becomes the leader of a guerrilla unit, a brave decision that will come at great costs.

1941. Hong Kogn is under Japanese occupation.

During the three-year-and-eight-month occupation, the Japanese military pillaged homes and arrested cultural fighures living in Hong Kong. The anti-Japanese DongJiang guerilla unit is tasked with rescuing these cultural figures and extracting them from the besieged city.

Preimary school teacher, Fang Lan (Zhou Xun) and her mother (Deanie Ip) are trying to live out this difficult period in a small run-down flat in Wanchai. After the schools are shut down, Lan – who recently broke up with Wing (Wallace Huo Chien-hwa) – unwittingly finds herself embroiled in the guerillas’ mission to save novelist Mao Dun. In the process, she meets Blackie Lau (Eddie Peng), the intrepid sharpshooter captain of the guerillas’ Urban and Firearms unit.

Taking notice of Lan’s calm, intelligent nature, Blackie recruits her to join the guerillas. Lan sets up a sercret liaison point for the guerillas in the city, stealthily delivering intelligence and extracting artists from the city under the watchful eyes of the Japanese military. Worried for her daughter’s safely, Lan’s mother volunteers to take Lan’s place as a courier, only to be arrested on the job. To save her mother, Lan is forced to turen to Wing, who now worlks for the Japanese….
