Hasumi Eiichiro, the director of the blockbuster Umizaru, Mozu and Assassination Classroom series, takes on the world of rally racing in the original film Over Drive. Popular young actors Higashide Masahiro (Death Note: Light Up the New World) and Arata Mackenyu (Chihayafuru) star in the hot-blooded film about racing rivalries and the relationship of two brothers. Mackenyu is younger brother Hiyama Naozumi, a reckless racing prodigy under Spica Racing Factory wbo often bumps heads with his serious-minded older brother Atsuhiro, the team's chief mechanic.
The stage for battle is set at the Seiko Cup Rally Series, the top domestic rally for young talents aiming for the World Rally Championship. Over Drive also features other up-and-coming stars like Morikawa Aoi (Too Young to Die) as Naozumi's new manager Endo Hikaru, DISH//'s Kitamura Takumi (Let Me Eat Your Pancreas) as rival driver Shinkai Akira, and Gekidan EXILE's Machida Keita (HiGH & LOW series) as Spica Racing Factory's new mechanic. Yoshida Kotaro (Ossan's Love) plays the president of Spica Racing Factory.
