Award-winning filmmaker Kawase Naomi (Still the Water) poetically reflects on the power of light and images in the gently poignant Radiance, which played in competition at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. Misako (Ayame Misaki) writes film audio descriptions for the visually impaired. At a test screening for the arthouse romance she's working on, she receives mixed responses from the audience. While most cushion their feedback in polite words, Nakamori (Masatoshi Nagase), a renowned photographer who is gradually losing his eyesight, bluntly criticizes her commentary. Though the two get off on a bad start, they become increasingly drawn to each other in subsequent meetings. Both struggling with losses, they inspire each other to see the beauty before them.
