After concluding Kiryu Kazuma's story in Ryu ga Gotoku 6: Inochi no Uta, the Yakuza series got a new protagonist and gameplay style in Yakuza: Like a Dragon (a.k.a. Ryu ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue), released in January 2020. Yakuza: Like a Dragon shifts the action from Tokyo to the Yokohama district of Isezaki Ijincho with our new gangster hero Kasuga Ichiban. In 2001, Kasuga confessed to a murder that he didn't commit with the expectation that he would be recognized by the clan for his sacrifice. When he's released from prison 18 years later, no one is waiting for him. He confronts syndicate head Arakawa, but gets shot. When Kasuga regains consciousness, he finds himself in a trash dump in Isezaki Ijincho. Departing from the real-time combat of previous Yakuza entries, Yakuza: Like a Dragon uses a turn-based RPG combat system.
A year later, the game launches for next-gen consoles with the title Yakuza: Like a Dragon International. This updated edition is based on the overseas version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and includes the English audio track. Besides improved frame rate and resolution and shorter loading time, it adds the Premium New Game and Super Final Millennium Tower content that was previously released as DLC for the PS4 game.
