    May 6, 2011 A Hilarious Romantic Comedy Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
After reading all the negative professional reviews of the movie the only reason I went to see it at a film festival in Los Angeles was because they advertised Leehom and the cast would be there which turned out to be false, no one from the movie was there.

As for the movie, I was expecting one of those sad “poor me” I’m rich and famous and no one loves me for me stories but this was nothing like that, it was a hilarious romantic comedy! And the inclusion of traditional Chinese music into the story line, not to mention the actual music, was brilliant. I think the musicians in the film are probably actual classical music students as they are portrayed in the movie. The cast is great, in addition to Leehom’s work I really loved the work of Joan Chen, Han Dian Chen, and Zhenyu Qiao. I liked Crystal too but since her character was plaid straight there wasn’t as much to her compared to the others. There isn’t much to the story and what I’d call the “light bulb” moment for Crystal’s character was weak and could have used some strengthening but otherwise it really worked for me. I really like the quirkiness of this movie, it reminded me a lot of Japanese movies.

On the downside there is Garnier product placement in the movie but not as much as the reviews led me to believe, twice is all I counted, but the one was so poorly done that no wonder the professional reviewers dwelled on it. And there were editing issues as well, one scene was cut short and another was just a shot of Joan Chen’s character crying which didn’t tie into anything and on top of it was cut short. There are also issues of low production value, there is a scene where DMH is chasing after Song Xiaoqing through a crowd and in one shot there is no crowd, all the people are standing on the sidewalks up against the buildings leaving an obvious crowd controlled path open for the actors. That scene was poorly shot. And as with Leehom’s other work, this too was “very formal” as I’ve heard his worked described before. I would describe it more as sterile. I’m sure some of it comes from wanting to meet censor standards in China since he is so popular there and wants to continue to work there but from an artistic standpoint he never pushes the envelope nor does he seem to reach as an artist so everything he does always sort of sounds and looks the same which is a shame because he is so very, very talented and LOVE IN DISGUISE is a wonderful vehicle for displaying those multiple talents.

    February 22, 2011 The 5 Princes Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
What a great ensemble cast! I know Ethan Ruan has received a lot of attention for his work in this movie but I found Mark Chao to be equally as good. And rounding out the cast of the 5 major characters in the film, is Rhydian Vaughan, Cai Changxian (who by the way I love from his Super Idol days), and Huang Denghui. There is nothing special about the gangster storyline, you already know what is going to happen before it's even half over. But what makes this movie standout is the development and journey of the 5 Prince Gang members. You really experience and understand why guys join gangs in the first place and that is for the acceptance and belonging that they didn't get at home or in society. The cast did a great job of making their characters likeable and then the bonding that went on between them made me invest a lot in them which made the turn of events so much more enjoyable and/or painful. The one thing I have found about Taiwanese films is that they never seem judgmental or biased towards one point of view over another, they just present the facts of the story and leave it entirely up to you to form your own opinions. One thing I really got a kick out of in the film was the dance number which was completely appropriate for the scene and really worked for me. One negative to the movie was that they made the 5 high school students which I never bought since they are all obviously adult males but thankfully the story moved quickly away from them being seen at school.

One major subtext, or maybe it was more overt I don’t know, is the gayness of probably more than one of the characters. I read one professional revue that thought Monk was possibly gay but I really thought that Mosquito could have been as well as Grey Wolf, especially after the scene where he shows up with his boys who lustingly look Mosquito up and down. If that was the intent of the writer that would explain some of the storyline. And if I hadn’t seen the last NG/outtakes scene on the added features I probably would have thought I was crazy to think this but… I don’t think it’s really an outtake but the boys being boys. It’s the character of Monkey on his back with Dragon (with his underwear on) sitting on top of him riding him simulating gay sex when all of a sudden in English the guys off screen say “Monga…coming soon.” It was definitely meant as a sexual innuendo but since no profanity is allowed in reviews I will leave it at that.

September 12, 2008 Well done and very sensitive Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I saw "Eternal Summer" at a film festival almost a year and half ago and loved it then and now I just bought the DVD and love it even more after watching it a second time. I noticed the same things when I watched it over a year ago as I noticed just now when I watched the DVD. The one thing about the DVD which is edited down to 95 minutes from the 105 minute uncut version I saw in the theater is the ending. By far the edited version saves the ending. When I saw the uncut version I was disappointed in the end because there had been such a nice arc to the story and then all of a sudden it fell off a cliff and died. The edited version on DVD cuts the ending short by a couple of minutes of dialogue and literally saves the ending and left me with even more appreciation for the film. Although I wish the 105 minute uncut version were available on DVD...

What made this movie so special was the organic nature of the relationship between Jonathan and Shane. I think a lot of people can relate to this movie and characters because it deals with normal every day type of people. The relationship between the two characters was so believable plus I really love the story! The one character I didn't like was the character of Carrie. I felt from the beginning that she was on the rebound from a relationship and that her trying to get Jonathan in bed was just a challenge for since she already sensed he was gay. And then her moving on to Shane seemed cruel to me as if she did that just to spite Jonathan and make him jealous. I never felt that Carrie really cared for either Jonathan or Shane although that contradicts the way her character was portrayed in the storyline. That's just my own feeling... One of the interesting things about the movie is that there are other characters in the movie but they never really come into play, you see them but there is almost no interaction with them. It's as if the world only consists of Jonathan and Shane and then eventually a third person, Carrie, is added to their world. I found the lack of other significant characters very interesting. There is one thing I didn't understand and that was the gloominess of the cinematography, it was either overcast or raining or night time. There was never a scene that took place in broad daylight or in any sort of brightness. Again, I found this interesting but didn't know what the director was trying to convey. But I think everyone should but the DVD and form their own opinion!

April 9, 2008 A funny yet touching movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Now I understand the Jay Chou wave, he definitely has "it." I've never seen any of his movies before, nor have I listened to his music before, but after watching this one movie of his I'm definitely a new fan of his.

I am not a basketball fan nor am I a fan of special effects movies especially the flying through the air kind used in the movie but this movie really worked for me. Maybe that's because it's sort of campy but nothing was overdone. I was afraid it would be nothing but one basketball game after another and a bunch of special effects but it wasn't like that at all, all the choices seemed appropriate to me. And there was even a story to the movie which I find amazing these days especially in a special effets movie. Maybe because of loosely being based on manga, the movie reminded me of cartoons or manga in which there is a moral lesson or principle being taught but because it's done via that type of medium you don't feel like you're being preached to or being hit over the head with the idea.

There was one thing about the movie that I found unbelievable and that was the way Ting Wei's drinking habit was executed/portrayed. Now that was over the top... I've seen other work of Wilson Chen so I know he is very capable of much more so I just chalked it up to a lack of direction in those scenes.

Another plus to this movie, at least for me, was the soundtrack. It was refreshing to hear something other than pop music or ballads. I primarily watch Korean movies and listen to Korean music and the only genres of music they know are pop and ballads and sometimes R & B.

I know there have been some really harsh negative reviews written about this movie but personally I think they're unjust. I really liked this movie!

One note about the English subtitles. The English subtitles were non-existent when I played the DVD on my old DVD player. The Chinese subtitles would appear when selected but when I selected the English subtitles, there was nothing. However, I then tried playing the disc on a newer DVD player that supports more formats and the English subtitles worked. I just thought I'm mention that in case someone else encounters the same problem. And by the way, the English subtitles are excellent, very good spelling and grammar.

I've been following FLY TO THE SKY since their SEA OF LOVE album and NO LIMIATIONS is exactly what I'd expect of the guys! I especially like their songs such as track 6 where they let loose and belt out the songs letting their voices come together in vocal marriage. I can't tell you how happy I am that they stayed together despite their individual endeavors. Long live FLY TO THE SKY!

April 23, 2007 No regrets here! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The bad news first... The English subtitles were the worst I have experienced this decade. Not since the 90's have I experienced subtitles that were so poor, the grammar and translation were equally bad.

The great news is that NO REGRET is exactly what I expect and want in a Korean film, a film that makes you feel like your heart has been ripped out after you're done watching it yet you want to go back and watch the movie over and over again. Unfortunately a lot of the current Korean movies are more like mainstream U.S. films instead of like the Korean films of the late 90's and the early 2000's that got Korean filmmakers noticed. Luckily NO REGRET didn't follow the current trend in Korea and stuck with an authentically Korean approach.

And I would agree with KNFW's, the other reviewer, perspective that this movie is a about that we all need love. The orphan story line is miniscule compared to the universal theme of everyone wanting someone to love and be loved and the barriers we erect to keep us from love/loving and getting hurt.

All the actors were excellent in the film, especially considering the difficult nature of the story. It always amazes me how Koreans will tackle such difficult social issues in their films but yet as a society remain in denial about them. Quite the opposite from the U.S. where we go to see fluffy/no brainer movies as a form of escapism from our lives and problems yet we tend to be much more inclined to deal with social ills as individuals and as a society. Bravo to the cast and crew of NO REGRET!!!

December 20, 2006 Kwon Sangwoo excels Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I rated this a 10 based on Sangwoo's performance. I bought the DVD not knowing anything about the movie other than Sangwoo and Haneul had been paired up again. When I started to watch the movie I thought the movie might be a sequel to MY TUTOR FRIEND since Haneul's actions, right down to her facial expressions, were straight out of MY TUTOR FRIEND. But after about the first 10 or 15 minutes I realized Sangwoo's character was definitely not the same and at about the same time Haneul's character normalized so I knew it wasn't a sequel to MY TUTOR FRIEND. Outside of those first 15 minutes the rest of the movie really worked for me. I especially enjoyed seeing Sangwoo in such a different role from what I'm use to seeing him in, and I've seen all of his movies now, and realized what a well rounded actor he really is. And the chemistry between the entire cast was great which added to the overall enjoyment of the movie plus I think the film was beautifully cast, all the actors were good. And for those of you who want a glimpse of Sangwoo's beautiful body, ALMOST LOVE will not disappoint you. Actually you get glimpses of 2 Sangwoo's, Kwon Sangwoo and Lee Sangwoo.

    December 13, 2006 A surprisingly funny movie! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I agree with Andy, I can't believe more people haven't seen and written about this movie. The best way I can describe this movie is that of a tragic comedy. I first saw the movie at a Korean film festival. The crowd was mixed about half Koreans and the rest non-Koreans, primarily white. I think the non-Koreans enjoyed the movie more than the Koreans did, they laughed hysterically throughtout a number of scenes in the movie. What I also liked about the movie was that there were twists to the story towards the end that I hadn't predicted. The only disappointed I experienced with the movie was that sometimes the sets looked like sets instead of an actual village. I enjoyed the movie so much that I just bought the DVD so I could watch the movie again.

August 28, 2006 Great acting, weak story Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
I bought the DVD because I like Moon So-ri and think she is a great actress. But what a disappointment this movie was... The actors' performances are great but the story is very weak and goes nowhere. It reminded me a lot of a Hong Sang-su movie, no real story and characters who just wander aimlessly throughout the movie and have lots of meaningless sex. And the way BEWITCHING ATTRACTION was shot and edited it made it very fragmented and not very enjoyable to watch. The one bright point of the movie was Ji Jin-hee and Park Won-sang! By far I thought Ji Jin-hee outshined everyone in the movie, his acting was exceptional. And I thought Park Won-sang was a close second. Both of these guys were great. I was a little disappointed in Moon So-ri though, she is such a good actress (see OASIS & A GOOD LAWYER'S WIFE) but out of the main characters she was my least favorite. She made some very interesting choices but I just don't think this is one of her better films.

July 18, 2006 Took some getting use to... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
TRANSITION is truly an apppropriate name for this album. It definitely has a different sound to it than their previous ones did which took some getting use to but after listening to the cd over and over again I really think that this is their best album yet! Both Brian and Fany's voices have matured and are so rich and mellow now. And as always their voices really compliment each others. It was true genius that paired these two guys together from the beginning.

"Hello, Goodbye Little Brother" is exactly what I expect from a Korean film, to feel like I've had my heart ripped out after watching it but yet wanting to go back and watch the movie over and over again. The director and cast did an excellent job!!! My only complaint is that I keep seeing this movie marketed as a "family film." It is a movie about family but I don't think it a movie for the entire family to watch, personally I don't think it would an appropriate movie for young children to watch due to the subject matter may be too disturbing for them.

November 24, 2003 Now I know why this movie won so many awards! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I highly recommend this movie! Not only was the entire cast EXCELLENT, not one bad performance by any of the actors, but the story was equally good, it kept me engaged right up through the end. And usually I can figure out what is going to happen as the movie goes along but not with this one. And the cinematography couldn't have been better, this movie is beautifully shot. I actually like "Memories Of Murder" better than the director's previous movie "Barking Dogs Never Bite". But if you haven't seen "Barking Dogs Never Bite" see it too, it's definitely worth seeing!
