YesAsia Editorial Description

With Gallen Lo, Felix Wong, Sunny Chan, Nick Cheung, Amy Kwok, Kathy Chow, Ada Choi, Jessica Hsuan, Paul Chun, Suet Nei, and Melissa Ng onboard, the star-studded cast assembled for the TVB grand production Secret of the Heart is one that can hardly be surpassed. Producer Jonathan Chik (Cold Blood Warm Heart, At the Threshold of an Era) is known for his sophisticatedly crafted family infighting sagas, and the 62-episode drama has rightfully been considered one of the best of its kind thanks to its gripping narrative and attractive actors. Secret of the Heart swept the 1998 TVB Anniversary Awards with Gallen Lo and Ada Choi crowned My Favorite Actor and Actress, respectively, and Nick Cheung winning Best Improvement Award. It also dominated the viewership ratings during its initial run; in fact, even the recent late-night re-run on TVB still posted impressive ratings.

Kam Leung Wan (Nick Cheung) grew up as the only son to airline magnate Kam Shu Pui (Paul Chun). But when it is revealed that his best friend Ching Ka Hung (Sunny Chan) is actually his half-brother and Pui's real son, Wan would stop at nothing to keep hold of what he has got, even if that means getting rid of Hung and anyone that stands in his way... Meanwhile, Hung's eldest sister Ka Ming (Amy Kwok) loses her life savings to her gambler boyfriend Cheuk Sheung Man (Gallen Lo). She later marries Pui's younger brother Shu Sang (Felix Wong), but her sister Ka Wai (Kathy Chow) falls in love with Sang secretly and even gets pregnant with his baby...

Product Information

Kevin (Nick Cheung), airline tycoon Shu-Pui's only son, accidentally encounters and afterwards becomes close friend to Ka-Hung (Sunny Chan), who grew up in a different environment and has a completely different character. Things change dramatically when they were made known that they are actually half-brothers from the same mother but have unknowingly lived with two separate fathers for 20 years. For fear of losing everything provided by the tycoon father, Kevin regards Ka-Hung as a thorn in his flesh and tries every means to get rid of him.

Meanwhile, the half-brothers find themselves in love with the same girl, Diana (Ada Choi), a materialistic flight attendant, who eventually chooses the richer and more confident Kevin. But they break up eventually. Following that, Diana gradually falls for Ka-Hung, who is always there for her, while Kevin, for some unknown reasons, suddenly wanted her back. Reluctantly, Diana returns to Kevin only to spy on him to gather evidence to save Ka-Hung.

On the other hand, Ka-Hung's half sister Ka-Ming (Amy Kwok) and Ka-Hung's friend Vincent (Gallen Lo), a hardcore but kindhearted tgambler, develop a romantic relationship but later break up, and Ka-Ming marries her boss Michael (Felix Wong), Shu-Pui's brother. But their marriage is not perfect, because Ka-Ming's sister, Ka-Wai (Kathy Chow), comes between them and even gets pregnant with Michael's baby after a night of drunkenness. Despite his true love for Ka-Ming, Michael finds himself struggling with his responsibilities for Ka-Wai's baby as a father.

In the fierce ocean of twisted love and hatred, these destined characters have no idea where fate will take them to.

A long show Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I have never seen a show this long. I am not able to finish every episode. Someday , I will try to watch the whole show. I mainly wanted to see Felix Wong but turns out my favorite charcter is Sunny Chan. He seems to be the
most normal person in the entire show. The good thing about old show is that I get to see what Hong Kong
looked like in the old days.

Nick Cheung's performance is excellent. Out of all his series, this one is the most impressive one regardless his character as a villain. This one is one of the best TVB I've watched.

A Tale of Two Brothers Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
A tale of love, hate, greed, revenge, jealousy and tragedy, this series has all the ingredients for any drama junkie. Nick Cheung and Sonny Chan star as two brothers, born to the same mother, but different fathers, who are separated at a young age. Sonny grows up poor and humble, Nick grows up wealthy and well-educated. The brothers eventually find out about each other, a secret their mother has hidden for over 20 years. Nick Cheung does an outstanding job as the rich and educated Kelvin. His character undergoes perhaps the most dramatic shift in any recent drama I've seen, from humble, sweet and charming good-natured young man to absolutely brutal and violent psychotic monster. Nick's acting was superb. I was amazed that I could find myself feeling sorry for him in spite of the terrible things his character did. Sunny Chan, who I had never seen before this show, was great as the sweet, naive young boy who senses his mother's resentment towards him but doesn't know why. Gallen Lo's character undergoes a dramatic change in this series as well, and he really won me over as a fan. I will definitely have to see more of his tv shows. This is a superbly acted drama, with Nick Cheung's performance standing out as one of the best I've seen in any TVB series so far. Felix Wong, Kathy Chow and Amy Kwok also deserve mention here as an ill-fated love triangle. A highly entertaining, edge-of-your seat drama!!
