Based on the eighth installment of the long-running Kaga Kyoichiro novel series by popular mystery author Higashino Keigo (The Galileo series), Shinzanmono brings Kaga to the streets of Tokyo's Nihonbashi district as a recently-transferred detective who solves the murder of a local woman. Produced by Iyoda Hidenori (Mr. Brain), the television drama adaptation stars Abe Hiroshi as the cool-as-ice detective, Kuroki Meisa (Crows Zero) as a local reporter who may know more than she appears, Mukai Osamu as the victim's estranged son, and Mizobata Junpei as Kaga's partner. Packed with guest appearances by respected actors like Kagawa Teruyuki, Natsukawa Yui, and Terajima Susumu, the premiere episode of the touching mystery-drama was one of the highest-rated single drama episodes in 2010.

Kaga Kyoichiro (Abe Hiroshi) has just been transferred to the Nihonbashi district, and his first case is the strangling death of a women who, just like Kaga, had just moved to the neighborhood. Working apart from other local detectives, Kaga investigates suspects from the neighborhood that range from an insurance salesman (Kagawa Teruyuki) to the victim's estranged husband (Miura Tomokazu), who are all hiding secrets of their own from the brilliant detective. Instead of finding evidence that incriminate the suspects, Kaga delve into each of the their lives to find the true reasons behind their lies, helping them come face-to-face with the respective issues troubling their lives.
