Arguably the funniest of the four famous Hui brothers, Michael has a tour-de-force vehicle in this naughty little comedy playing four different characters, each one in a compromising situation. And the laughs do come big and hearty as Hui bounces his cheeky humour off a terrific large supporting cast including the sophisticated Hu-chin and the lovely Pai Hsiao-man. Keeping the Benny Hill-style hi-jinks afloat is stalwart Shaw director Li han-hsiang who manages to switch flawlessly between these cheeky flings and his period epics.

A showcase for Michael Hui's talents Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Writer/director Li Han Hsiang's "Sinful Confession" presents a smorgasbord of vice, a buffet which leaves the impression that early '70s Hong Kong was swimming in sin. The film features three primary stories, presented sequentially, with minor substories interwoven. Each of the three main stories features a brilliant performance by Michael Hui, with Hui depicting a different character in each tale.

In the first story, Hui plays Jimmy Fang, a race track announcer and sports columnist whose penchant for voyeurism lands him in hot water. In the second, Hui plays Dr. Ng, a straight-laced, high profile, and high-priced doctor whose practice focusses on women's health issues. Dr. Ng's newest patient, the lovely Yu Juan Juan (Pai Hsiao Man), places Dr. Ng in straits for which his medical training provides no cure. In the final tale, Hui is Jiang Liang, a humble boat person who gets a job providing cleaning services in a brothel, then works the gaming tables in a casino. His rise through Hong Kong's world of vice provides many eye-opening experiences.

Director Li creates an amusingly smutty mosaic, with his usual quotient of naked ladies. In addition to Michael Hui's tour de force, Hu Chin is superb in two roles, playing herself as a tart-talking gambling addict and playing the '7th Lady' in the brothel at which Jiang Liang works.

The message of "Sinful Confession" can be summarized as: Temptation makes us stupid; our vice, whatever it may be, will overpower us and produce our downfall. One can't help but wonder if director Li reflected on this theme when Pai Hsiao Man, the teenaged beauty whom Li placed in the role of his film's main temptress, a girl of only 18 at the time of filming who was required by her role to appear completely unclad, and a girl for whom director Li had big plans in his future film projects, committed suicide shortly after the release of "Sinful Confession".
