Macau native Tracy Choi's directorial debut Sisterhood traces two women's intimate, evolving relationship in the rapidly changing landscape of Macau in the late nineties. Written by Milkyway Image screenwriter Au Kin Yee (Life Without Principle), the lesbian-themed melodrama won the Audience Choice Award at the inaugural Macau Film Festival. Gigi Leung stars as an alcohol-dependent woman who reminisces about her formative experiences as a young masseur in Macau and the soulmate who changed her life. The nineties portion of the moving story is brought alive by young actresses Jennifer Yu (In Your Dreams) and Fish Liew (Lazy Hazy Crazy), who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Stephanie Che and Teresa Mak play the protagonist's friends in the present day, and Macau-born stars like Louis Castro, Terence Siufay and Soler's Dino make cameo appearances.
Sei (Gigi Leung) manages a homestay inn in Taiwan with her husband (Li Li Ren). Her life is peaceful and comfortable but her heart has never been at peace. News of a past friend's death suddenly awakens memories of her youth in Macau. She decides to return to the city she once called home, but it is no longer the Macau she remembers. Sei (Fish Liew) was a naive 18-year-old when she began working at a massage parlor for the first time in the late nineties. There, she met and befriend the street-wise Ling (Jennifer Yu) who showed her the ropes. The two became very close and even decided to raise a child together. Confused feelings and changing times would send them down different paths, but neither could ever forget each other.
