The Johnny's Entertainment stage show SUMMARY of Johnny's World is back for its 2010 edition! For the second time in a row, Hey! Say! Jump! and Johnny's Jr. headlined the entertainment spectacular, and the theme for this year's edition is "Johnny's Circus Boys" (to fit with the venue name JCB Hall). This means that fans were treated with 56 shows of exciting and hilarious circus stunts served up by the young Johnny's performers, including trapeze jumps, water cannons, and tricks involving cute animals. Of course, the Hey! Say! Jump! boys also performed hit songs from their debut album Jump No.1. Featuring over 100 performers, this isn't just another Johnny's Entertainment show, it's Summary 2010!

Summary of Johnny's new generation
|
Summary of Johnny's World started back in the summer of 2004 with NEWS and KAT-TUN, followed by a 2005 edition with NEWS and Ya-Ya-Yah. The popular stage show returned in 2008 under Hey! Say! JUMP, and with last summer's 2010 edition and the upcoming summer's 2011 edition, Summary is now effectively Hey! Say! JUMP's show. The younger Johnny's need a stage of their own, and it makes sense that it's Summary. Yabu Kota and Yaotome Hikaru have been there since the beginning as headliners, and let's not forget 11-year-old Nakajima Yuto as the bunny in Summary 2004! Among the recurring Johnny's stage shows, Summary is perhaps the most purely entertaining, because it offers quick highlights of other Johnny's shows. The packed episodic format makes it less play and musical-oriented and more of a themed concert with wirework, acrobatics, and circus tricks. Summary 2010 has many of the show's staples like flying boys, fake fighting, dragon slaying, sempai covers, and, of course, world-themed performance segments that have nothing to do with the countries the members are representing. (Hikaru, carrying a backpack with a stuffed koala while you sing doesn't make you Australia.) There's also an amusing attempt at a Q&A session about New York, led by a smiley Yabu. While the carnivale vibe isn't exactly new to Summary, the 2010 edition makes the circus theme official, and the boys follow through with some impressive tricks. Hikaru does some crazy juggling, and everyone gets to bring out an adorable dog for a canine talent show. If you've ever wanted to see Johnny's idols and puppies jump-rope together, Summary 2010 is for you! Also, Okamoto Keito gets to speak Brit English to a dog. On a more physically taxing note, Arioka Daiki and Yamada Ryosuke take to the tightrope (backwards!), and Chinen Yuri challenges the trapeze, looking even smaller and younger than usual next to professional trapeze artists. The high difficulty level of these performances is written on their faces; I haven't seen them look that tense and nervous since their debut. As is common for Hey! Say! performances, the share of stage time is unbalanced, with an obvious skew towards Yabu, Hikaru, Yamada, and Chinen. Arioka also gets in a fair amount of talking (and tightroping) this time. Morimoto Ryutaro, however, barely registers - so much so that his little brother Shintaro actually leaves a deeper impression performing with his mini tuxedoed Snow Prince Gassho Dan. Other than giving Hey! Say! JUMP some much needed attention and providing Yabu a reason to jump into spraying water with an unbuttoned white shirt, Summary is also an important stage for the younger Jrs., tomorrow's idols. Nakayama Yuma is surprisingly not a major presence during the show, and had to deal with the awkward shuffle of being NYC but not JUMP. Among the main Jr. supporters, Hip Hop Jump and B.I. Shadow get to perform their own little bit. B.I. Shadow fans can rejoice because Nakajima Kento and Kikuchi Fuma speak first as the introductory MCs, and they speak last as representatives for the Jrs. NakaKen, in particular, seems to be bound for great things judging by how comfortable he is on stage. Summary 2010 is less a summary of Johnny's world and more a summary of Johnny's now, a stage for the agency's new and next generation. From their own days as Jrs. for the Summary 2004 and 2005 shows to the current Summary, Hey! Say! JUMP has grown up into their headlining roles just fine. |
