Every time I turn around, a new Super Junior unit has sprouted from nowhere. Certainly with three Super Junior albums released in about a month's time, it seems Father SM is testing the patience and wallets
of even the most faithful. At first gander, Super Junior Happy does have the suspicious air of being slapped together - an antidote to occupy members not in Super Junior M and to distract fans still chanting "Only 13" - but their mini album has turned out to be a very agreeable release. If pop music is meant to be happy, harmless, and entertaining, then Super Junior Happy's Cooking? Cooking! passes with flying colors.
In comparison to the picture-perfect boy band image of Super Junior M or even the concept cool of Don't Don, Super Junior Happy feels closer to home, more genuine and down-to-earth. With the variety show half of the group holding fort, Super Junior H looks and sounds like a softer, summery version of Super Junior T (minus Kim Hee Chul, plus Ye Sung). Super Junior Happy doesn't reach the silly sequined heights of Super Junior T, but the same air of feel-good pop and tongue-in-cheek humor leads the way for this lighthearted mini album. Title track Cooking? Cooking! (Track 1) is pure SuJu silliness, a fun and light number with completely unlyrical lyrics about a girlfriend who can't cook. The beginning of the song is particularly charming and well arranged, throwing in everything from singing and rapping to yodeling and Shin Dong growling. Rivaling Cooking? Cooking! in feel-good goofiness, Pajama Party (Track 2) opens with a rap section by Eun Hyuk and frolics into a carefree uptempo pop melody with a catchy chorus and yet more silly lyrics. The (slightly) more serious You and I (Track 3) tones the outright cheer down to a softly pleasant level. The free-flowing verses and harmonizing chorus let the members show their vocals, and their performance is better than expected. (I guess having Ye Sung in the mix this time does help.) My favorite track of the album is Sunny (Track 4) which is quite simply too unabashedly retro happy to dislike. This colorful 80s-style bubble gum pop number follows in the album's overall cheery easy-listening music style, but with some Wham and maybe Alvin and the Chipmunks thrown in. The album's closing song, Good Luck (Track 5), is also the closest thing to a normal offering, a mellow and uptempo love song with an easygoing flow. Super Junior Happy is a truly doofy name for a group, and the album's insert pictures are on the level of in-your-face fan-service cuteness. (Super Junior in matching pajamas making faces? Done!) But the group does live up to its label with some very happy music. And considering the amount of pushing and shoving K-pop fandom has inspired lately, we could all use a little more happiness. |

Wow this mini album of super junior happy is really awesome. The songs are upbeat and catchy which is really nice because it is an instant mood changer. And even the meaning of the songs are cute. And ofcourse the best part of it the pictures!!!! They were totally adorable in their pajama party. This definetly made my
new year happy! ;) |

Yet another sub-group, Happy. And yeahhs, the songs are definitely happy and cheerful and after listening to tracks online, i felt that i should relleh get this CD. And i wasnt wrong!! This single is especially good and it does cheer you up when you're down. With their great vocals, and their new & cute & happy image, you're bound to love them. ^^
