The production company behind acclaimed hits Nirvana in Fire, The Disguiser, Ode to Joy and Candle in the Tomb, Daylight Entertainment takes on the medical genre with the 2017 series Surgeons. Melding medical, romance and suspense elements, the hit drama stars Jin Dong (Nirvana in Fire) and Bai Baihe (Monster Hunt) as surgeons who are connected by a medical malpractice mystery that led to the deaths of their parents years ago.

When a car accident victim dies from a drug allergy in the hospital, nurse Shumei is blamed for the death and forced from her job. Her eight-year-old son gets into a fight over the accusations, during which time his little sister gets abducted. Shumei commits suicide soon after. Thirty years later, Shumei's son has grown up to become surgeon Zhuang Shu (Jin Dong). After years abroad, Zhuang Shu returns to China to take up a position at his mother's old hospital. He hopes to find his missing sister and the truth behind the medical malpractice incident years ago. At the hospital, he meets cardiac surgeon Chenxi (Bai Baihe), who got transferred to ER because of a dispute with her department head. Chenxi, it turns out, is the daughter of the patient who died from the drug allergy.
