YesAsia Editorial Description

T-ara takes us back in time with their curiously titled new album John Travolta Wanna Be! Inspired by Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta, and the popular sounds of the 70s and 80s, the group's new single Roly Poly is a disco-style dance smash by Shinsadong Tiger and Choi Kyu Sung. The girls go adorably retro for the album concept and music video, which will co-star teen idols of yesteryear. T-ara is even bringing back classic dance moves like the hustle and the ABC dance into their choreography! The album also includes the new song "Really Really Like You", and remix versions of five of their hit songs.

Roly, Roly-Poly ♡ Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
So, I also purchased this EP and I'd say this is one of the must-haves for all Diamonds, plus with reasonable prize :).

I guess "John Travolta Wanna Be" is some kind of a repackaged version for their previous "Temptastic" release? Since 5 out of 7 tracks are just-not-as-good-as-their-origins remixes. Need I say more?

'진짜 진짜 좋아해' makes a nice new track with its retro, trot-like melody, still, with the addition of modern idolized charms and it's a quite hooky song :)

However, I still wanna recommend this EP, because of its absolute all-kill hit 'Roly-Poly' and awesome disco-queens concept. I wouldn't comment much on the track as it's already the you-know-what hit, and go right on to the concept: the old-styled B&W pictures that bring nostalgia, with half of them portraiting "70s-stylish" disco queen on stage doing all these familiar retro dance moves with all these colorful makeups and curly hairdos and glossy backgrounds, while the other half shows rebellious teenage schoolgirls, still wearing ankle-long uniform skirts, using the same schoolbags, yet already trying their best to stand out (funky hairdos, glossy red wedge-heels, heart-shaped sunglasses and come-at-me-bro looks on their faces. I like how they're posing in the middle of fields and the forest, drinking coke from glass bottles just like how people should've actually done during that time. After all, I guess the best thing about T-ara is always the concept :)

Highly recommended!

T-ara go all Disco Retrovolta Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
No matter that “T-ara – John TRAvoltA Wannabe” is a T-ara remix album with only two new songs; by the fact that it includes “Why Are You Being Like This?”, “I Don’t Know” and “It’s Okay” (as well as “Ma Boo” and “Yayaya”) here, still keeps T-ara’s flame lit brightly, and although the remixes aren’t anything to shout about, they are decent dance club versions that also keep to the original song formats. I mean, who couldn’t love listening to “Why Are You Being Like This?” again. :D But, yes, the 70s disco dresses, flared trousers and Saturday Night Fever retro look (which is nice), that T-ara’s new song “Roly Poly” features in, as little new song material to offer and seems more like an out-take song extra from T-ara’s “Absolute First” album. “I Really, Really Like You” (the B-side) is okay, but “Roly Poly” (will we get Pyjama Rama? Fruity Cuties? in future T-ara singles?) is certainly more of T-ara’s electronic dance style, with some interpolated 70s disco bits, and another good dance song - complimented by nostalgia ABC/Wave dance moments on the long “Roly Poly” story music video.

The packaging is very nice. Its a portrait card digi-pack with attached booklet, and all the photos of the girls are either black and white, de-saturated and aged to make T-ara seem like they were around when Heatwave were doing “Boogie Nights” (and make T-ara seem like grannies in 2011!). If you don’t have any CDs of T-ara I’d much more recommend their “Absolute First/ Breaking Heart” album, as overall T-ara’s debut album includes a bag full of catchy candy songs that are well produced, and one of the most recommended K-pop albums to get. “JT Wannabe” and song “Roly Poly”, however, is hopefully a taster towards a second new full album for T-ara - and only really made for hardcore fans. Could be more interesting if the 12+ minute version of the “Roly Poly” MV was included on a DVD (Taiwanese edition, maybe?) But, hey, “JT Wannabee” as still got great T-ara moments here! Oh, you cannot help but admire this T-ara band of cute girl warriors. Horror movies, retro 70s dance and all pretty lovely, too! :D I’ll give it four!

Nice Mini Album Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I am a big fan of T-ara and for this only reason I buy all their release ! However, this new mini album is pretty disapointed since it mostly contains remix version of their previous mini-album. The main track Roly-Poly is great but 진짜 진짜 좋아해 (the other new song) isn't exceptional and a little plain.
So to conclude, if you are not a real fan of T-ara, it won't be worth to put so much money in it but if you are a big fan who want to support them so don't hesitate....only for Roly-Poly which is one of their best song to me !
