YesAsia Editorial Description

An Englishman gets shipwrecked in 17th-century Korea in the 2009 MBC drama Tamra Island! Based on Jung Hye Na's popular comic, the fusion period drama revolves around the adventures that unfold when a young British castaway, an exiled noble, and a female diver cross paths on the island of Tamra (present-day Jeju). Produced by Group Eight and directed by Yoon Sang Ho (The Legend), the charming romantic comedy of errors is headlined by a cast of rising stars - Seo Woo (Crush & Blush), Im Ju Hwan (Boys Over Flowers), Lee Sun Ho (The Snow Queen), and Korean-fluent French actor Pierre Deporte.

Young Englishman William (Pierre Deporte) is fascinated with the Orient so when his friend, Japanese sailor Yan (Lee Sun Ho), tells him about a new Dutch sea route to Japan, he eagerly jumps onboard. The ship meets a rough storm at sea, and William gets thrown overboard. He drifts to the island of Tamra and gets rescued by bubbly diver Beo Jin (Seo Woo), who was out scouring for abalone. Intrigued by the blonde-haired foreigner, Beo Jin takes him under her wing and hides him in a cave. William isn't the only newcomer though. Arrogant scholar Kyu (Im Ju Hwan) has been exiled to Tamra, and he's in for a rude awakening. Noble airs won't get him anywhere on the rural island where even a chamber pot is nowhere to be found!

This edition comes with over two hours of English-subtitled special features including behind-the-scenes, interviews, and bloopers.

TEAM PARK KYU!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This drama has been a BIG surprise for me. It got dissapointing and abyssmal ratings, got cut by the broadcast station by 5 episodes, and pretty much got shunned by the media. However, a few people saw its potential and that includes my trusted friends and critics of Korean Dramas. Thy have been raving about this drama enough to get me curious to check it out. However, I wanted to wait until the full 21 uncut version came out for me to truly appreciate the drama as the PDs intended it to be. So I did waited.

After receiving my package for this Director's Cut DVD.. the rest is history. I was curious, and then I got excited, then I was captivated, I was hooked, and then I was full of regret. Regret that I let a year to pass after broadcast to discover this drama. Regret that this drama was underrated in Korea yet it deserves so much more. Regret that I was not able to show support and give encouragement to the staff and actors when they are having a hard time.

This drama made it on my list of My Favorite Dramas Of ALL time. And Park Kyu is now my No.1 Male Character of All time. And Im Ju Hwan, it is an understatement to say that I am now his loyal fan. I will forever belong to TEAM PARK KYU.

Great Beautiful Scenery Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is actually one of those new korean drama genre and it is totally different than any other dramas that I've have ever seen. This drama was a big surprise for me and watching it made me really like it. It is not only the characters that is great, but also the nice visual views (nice background views) of the whole drama. What is also a new thing about this drama is that they had a foreigner as the one of the main character in this drama... which is actually something new to korean dramas.

If you ever got the money, choose this drama! This one is really drama great and will make you laugh, cry... etc. I really enjoy this drama is all of ways... I'm really glad that I also watch this drama. Plus, the music makes the drama extra better! ^_^

Really recommended!

A surprisingly enjoyable comedy/drama Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I had missed many episodes so bought the dvds to view it in entirety. It did not disappoint.
The scenery was so awesome, the actors/actresses so unique and the story, while slow at the start, moved along and captured my interest in no time. The special features dvd with interviews and story background added much to my enjoyment of this comedy. It would be great to see a "Tamra Island Part 2".!!

A True Gem Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I started watching this drama by chance and 'what a find'. This is really by far one of the best dramas out there. It's different and refreshing. The characters are not stereotypical like most. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for something a little extra special. The director's cut dvd set is a real treat with the additional episodes originally unaired. It really completes the missing pieces from when I first watched it. One of the most important elements in a drama for me is the music and this drama definitely will not disappoint you.
