YesAsia Editorial Description

Hong Kong's controversial, award-winning 2015 anthology film Ten Years, which imagined life in the city ten years later, has inspired spin-offs in Taiwan, Thailand and Japan that offer local takes on the future. Set in 2028, Ten Years Taiwan presents five shorts from new-generation directors that broach current socioeconomic issues and p>expectations.

In Wawa no Cidal director Lekal Sumi's "The Can of Anido," an old aboriginal farmer silently grows meager crops and struggles day to day on Lanyu Island, his fiery past as an anti-nuclear activist long behind him. In Filipino-Taiwanese filmmaker Rina Tsou's "942," a Taiwanese nurse is trapped and violated in a Indonesian hospital, echoing the abuse suffered by migrant workers in Taiwan today. Lu Po Shun's "Way Home" follows an unemployed young man's day in a rural province as he journeys through barren landscape in hopes of finding a job. Hsieh Pei Ju's satirical "A Making Of" is about the making of a TV commercial and the difficulty of finding a real baby when people can no longer afford to have children. Lau Kek Huat (Absent Without Leave) directs the sci-fi exercise "The Sleep" in which a woman prefers living in dreams over the real world.
