Overall an AMAZING album & Comeback! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This album is simply put, AMAZING! ayaka's voice is still just as powerful and soulful as ever! Each and every track, you can tell was carefully written and produced to the bone! My favorite tracks and tracks that i recomend are;
"Hajimari no Toki, Hello, Soko Made Aruite Iku yo, The beginning, THIS IS THE TIME and Yasashii Ao," and even, "Egao no Canvas." because this track reminds me of ayaka's earlier works!
These tracks I feel are the ones you'll be singing along to!

One thing I think is different about this album is that it seems like ayaka has, "matured," music-WISE. You can feel the growth of the songs compared to her earilier works. The melody and the lyrics are more serious in a sense. When that difference crossed my mind, I was actually quite sad, because the "old," ayaka was more EXPRESSIVE, RAW and REAL (Music-WISE)
If you are a HUGE ayaka fan like I am, you might understand what I'm trying to say ;D

Anyways back to the subject! ~ I think this album is a TOTAL worth buy for all huge ayaka fans and new people hearing ayaka's music for the first time! The album is #1 on the Oricon charts and sold over 108,000 copies in the first week (Her lowest first week sales) But it is empressive it made #1, it goes to show that there are loyal fans of ayaka and because it is a comeback album, there was about only 2 months of promoting it. Anyways~ A worth purchased, ayaka is AMAZING! :D

 I would give this 4 and a half if I could Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I like this album - a LOT. I'm hesitant to give it five stars because, in my opinion, none of the songs really make me go WOW the way some of her older songs did, but I still highly recommend that anyone interested in a female singer who can actually sing and writes some pretty nice lyrics get this album.

What I like: it's a good album. The songs are gorgeous, Ayaka's voice is fantastic. It's less pop-ish than her last two albums, with more ballads, and Ayaka does ballads really, really well. My personal favorite is the last track, Yasashii Ao, but other fan favorites are track 1 (Hajimari no Toki) and The Beginning. As well, there are some other genres to break up the ballads, like MAGIC MIND (which is also very catchy).

So what's keeping me from giving it the full five stars? A few little things (again, I would give this four and a half stars if I could!), that's all. I think there are too many ballads, all of which seem to follow a similar sound: gentle, soothing, with brief breaks where Ayaka shows off her vocal strength. I may just be an unappreciative heathen, but they all sort of just sound the same too me, in terms of melodies and such. As well, there are no tracks that, I think, show off Ayaka's vocal strength that well. I like songs where Ayaka uses the strength of her voice to its full extent - not to say she doesn't sound fantastic in these sort of slower ballads, her husky voice sounds great with soft songs. But I would have liked a little more variety.

My opinion in short: for the first couple of listens The Beginning is slightly underwhelming, but it's still a solid comeback album, and an impressive one considering she produced it herself! I think she still has plenty of room to grow and that she'll come out with something even more fantastic, though, so when that time comes I'll be ready to give it a well-deserved five stars. For now, though, I think The Beginning is a nice album. A good start to the new year, for sure, and I'm excited for more to come!
