YesAsia Editorial Description

Soccer and Buddhism collide in the crowd-pleasing comedy The Cup! Based on true events, the film tells the tale of life within a Buddhist monastery - and how it's turned upside down by football (soccer) fever! Two young Tibetan refugees arrive at a Buddhist monastery while the World Cup is being played, and the place is being driven into a football frenzy by Orgyen, a student barred from watching the World Cop at the local village. Now, with his ability to watch the matches at risk, Orgyen attempts at all costs to obtain a satellite dish for the monastery...and his efforts could test the patience and resolve of everyone in the monastery! A funny, touching, and human celebration of life and the common love of football, The Cup was recognized by a People's Choice Award at the 1999 Toronto Film Festival.
