On November 25, 1970, renowned writer Mishima Yukio broke into Japan Self-Defense Force Headquarter with four members of his militia and committed ritual suicide in an effort to restore the emperor to power. That controversial incident is the main subject of The Day Mishima Chose His Own Fate, the powerful docu-drama from the late Wakamatsu Koji. After showing the perspective of left-wing radicals in United Red Army, Wakamatsu goes to the other end of the political spectrum to examine the thoughts going through an ultra right-wing nationalist who can go as far as to give up his life for his political cause. Iura Arata is phenomenal as the paranoid writer, giving an intense performance that will not be easy to forget for years to come.
