Ting Fung and Tsui Yuen-ping mistakenly enter an old tomb. Kam Lo-yi and Yeung Man-yiu, who is deft at dealing with traps, arrive to look for Gold Cicada and Jade Butterfly. Tsui manages to wrest the sheath of the sword from Yeung. It turns out that Kam is the younger brother of Tsui's father, who has been suffering humiliation for 20 years over avenging the death of his elder brother. Seeing what has happened, the beggar Sung To takes the initiative to help Tsui to look for Kam's enemy, Yik Tin-hang. They go separate ways in the old tomb to search for this man. Tsui sees the woman in purple lying on a bed. The woman agrees to co-operate with Yik, but he must first release Tsui. Yik promises Kam to seize the sheath of the sword in Pik Law Mountain Estate.

The woman in purple has saved Kam. But she has taken poison given by Yik. She meets Taoist master Tin Yuen, who cures her in a marvellous way. This arouses misunderstanding on the part of Tsui. Yik grasps the opportunity to sow dissension between Tin and Tsui by asking Tin to kick Tsui down the mountain. Thinking that Tsui has died, the woman in purple uses a gold hairpin to destroy her own face. After being kicked in a vital point, Tsui's fighting power is unexpectedly strengthened. Everybody plans to hold an assembly of the martial arts sector in order to expose Yik's schemes. Tsui promises Ting Fung that he will look after her all his life when he has killed Yik with his own hands.

VCD Cover is a bit deciving. Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
Very similar to the style of Secret Book maybe is from the same author. Again all girls go after the male lead this time instead of Mr Lam Ka Sing is Mr Cheung Ying Choi. Like Secret Book Ms Yu suddenly disappear from the story, it is left with Chan Ho Kow, Connie Chan and a rather stiff acting new commer Suet Lei to fight over their man. Mr Skeh Kin is more suited to be a villain. I would see this film before other better films like The Snowflake Sword.

Golden Hairpin Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Very good movie, good acting, good special effect although some scenes are blurred as the picture is not focused well, hope the VCD-producer will correct this short-coming.

Also, the sound quality is not so good, sometimes it is difficult to hear, sometimes it is too loud.
I use 5.1 speaker system and the sound quality has improved as more speakers have compensated the weak sound in some parts of the movie.

In the novel, there are four actress who are all in love with the Principal male role actor.
As this is difficult to handle, the scriptwriter has chopped off one (YU so Chow) at the end of the First part.

Very Very good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
The picture quality of this movie box set is exceptionally good compared with that of other old-Cantonese movie box sets produced by the same company, i.e. Tien Sing Records Company. I have, in some previous comments, complained Tien Sing's poor VCD quality.

And, the original movie is comprised of 4 parts, each time span is more than 100 minutes.

As the VCD producer this time have NOT cut any parts of the originals, the plot of the whole story is complete and intact. The black & white picture is very good, except that some shots are blurred (due to the VCD quality, NOT of the original films)

Some parts of the sound are too difficult to hear, such defect also a result of POOR VCD production.

Anyway, as more than 99% of the original scenes have been preserved, I rank this box set 99% good, despite some blurred pictures and weak sound effects in some scenes.

Excellent Classic Epic Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
It is good that at long last, this excellent movie classic is on VCD. This swordfighting blockbuster of the 1960s stars some of the biggest names in the Cantonese movie world. Highly recomanded.

An Excellent Epic Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is a Blockbuster Four Full-length Feature Film Serial. Shown in the cinemas in 1963-1964 this was an enormous box-office smash hit in the good old days. It's really good to have these 4 episodes on VCD at long last. The VCD Box one contain 2 movies GOLDEN HAIRPIN Part 1 & Part 2. The second Box contain another 2 more movies Part 3 and 4. This is basically a CHEUNG YING-CHOI movie. Pretty Connie Chan Poh Chu is only in Part 2, 3 & 4. She is not in Part 1. A very exciting swordfighting ancient classic -highly recomended. Picture and Sound Quality is suprisingly intact and quite good. Quickly order both the box-sets today. I predict these to be a big seller.
