Song Dynasty monk Ji Gong is deified in Chinese legends as an eccentric folk hero who used his powers to help the poor and protect the weak from injustice during. Oft imagined in film and television, the legendary figure has been portrayed by many actors over the years, including Leung Sing Bor, Sun Ma Sze Tsang, You Benchang, Karl Maka and Stephen Chow in The Mad Monk. The most well-known onscreen Ji Gong in recent years is Hong Kong actor Benny Chan, who played the character in five television seasons in China from 2010 to 2015. In 2018, the television star and writer-director Lam Tze Chung bring brand new Ji Gong adventures in The Incredible Monk film series.

In the first The Incredible Monk, Ji Gong teams up with other deities – Erlang Shen, Lei Zhenzhi, Nezha, Jiutian Xuannu and Taming Tiger Luohan – to fight a demon that is conspiring to conquer the three realms. Besides Benny Chan and Lam Tze Chung, the film features comedy regulars like Chan Kwok Kwan, King Kong, Law Ka Ying and Wong Jing.

In the sequel The Incredible Monk - Dragon Return, heroic general Gao (Joe Hsieh, HIStory2: Crossing Line) is in love with childhood sweetheart Fengyi (Huang Lufei), but due to unfortunate circumstances, she ends up in the brothel. Bowing to pressure, Gao doesn't dare to marry Fengyi. He seeks the help of Ji Gong who vows to reunite the tragic lovers. However, Gao's subordinates kill Fengyi in hopes that the general will forget about her. Ji Gong angrily transforms into a dragon and challenges the rules of heaven and hell to bring back Fengyi's spirit.

The Incredible Monk (2018)

Daoji stationed in Suzhou and Hangzhou during Southern Song Dynasty, to prevent goblins and leprechauns from causing chaos. Daoji saved the people from a tsunami caused by an aqua monster, but he was blamed for not fulfilling his dut. People started to convert from Buddhism to Hongyuan. Soon came the sudden news that the Emperor was dead and a young emperor reigned. After Daoji's thorough investigation, he found that it was the well-orchestrated conspiracy of Roc. Roc wanted to overthrow the Spiritual Trinity. In the last saga of Ji Gong, the incredible monk successfully formed an alliance with people from all walks of life to save humanity. Peace is but fleeting as warfare continues to plague the world.

General Gao Renjie is a prominent official of the royal court. He has been in countless battles and has been hailed as a decorated war hero. He has a childhood sweetheart named Feng Yi whom he liked since they were young. Feng Yi suffers a terrible fate when she is thrown to a life of prostitution. Although Gao Renjie loves Feng Yi, he does not dare to marry her. Gao Renjie turns to Ji Gong for help, yet things do not go as planned.
