Yeh Tien Lun, the director of Twa Tu Tiann and Night Market Hero, continues to draw inspiration from local places and culture in The Mad King of Taipei, the closing film of the 2016 Kaohsiung Film Festival. The Mad King of Taipei brings audiences into the colorful and magical world of Ximen, the city's youth and shopping mecca.

Lonely amateur designer Tigger (Kuo Shu Yao, Step Back to Glory) opens shop in this trendy bustling district, and quickly realizes that Ximen has no lack of three things: movies, money and madness. And the maddest of the bunch is a homeless man (Li Li Ren, The Big Power) dubbed the King of Ximen. Urban legends abound about this roving mystery man who refuses to be indoors, but what is his real story? An unexpected fairy tale begins when Tigger crosses paths with the Mad King of Taipei.
