YesAsia Editorial Description

On August 8, 2008 at 8pm, the XXIX Olympic Games kicked off in Beijing, China with a spectacular Opening Ceremony directed by choreographer Zhang Jigang and renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou (Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower). The beating of drums and dazzling bursts of fireworks set the stage for an amazing display of traditional Chinese culture and performing arts as hundreds of performers in elaborate costumes danced, drummed, and performed martial arts in perfect unison for what many have called the most impressive Olympics Opening Ceremony ever. Athletes from over 200 countries around the world entered the Beijing National Stadium for the parade of nations, the order of which was determined by the stroke number of the countries' Chinese names. NBA player and local hero Yao Ming carried the flag for Team China.

Coming to DVD at lightning speed, The Opening Ceremony Of The Beijing 2008 Olympics Games records the magnificent Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, from the firework opening to former Olympics gymnast Li Ning's flying entry to light the cauldron.

Disappointed Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
Hi

I waited sometime to watch the DVD and I was disappointed that it only have only the Chinese language. What happen to the English???
I am also waiting to see the closing Ceremony DVD.I wonder if that will have English??

I watch the shows on the BBC here in the UK and their commentaries was very good. Maybe CCTV should have used the BBC sound track for the English part of the DVD instead of no English at all.
Is there going to be another version made available soon???

TVB version is the one to get. Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
Just viewed the TVB version, in HD. Very clear pix, lots of details I missed from the CCTV one. Very pleasant and informative commentaries by Do Do Cheng and Harkin Lee. One more plus to this set, however, if the commentaries are subtitled or closed Captioned.

Not that great Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
CCTV didn't do a good job and just like the NBC version cut various scenes out. However at least we don't have to listen to the biased comments like the NBC version. Save your money and wait for the TVB version. That version is the best one, even better than NBC.

Poor excuse for a dvd Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
This is terrible quality!! Folks, if you are expecting DVD quality this is not. Looks like CCTV really rushed to get this out the door, and to another reviewer's point, there is no English on this DVD at all.

Save your money, and wait for the NBC version, or better yet, I'm sure someone is gonna put this out on Blu-ray.

I'm using my as a coaster.

not good!! Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
CCTV has done a bad job on this set. Not many commentaries, jumpy cuts.... No English version as it claims to have!

A poorly-done and hurried-up prodution. Not fair to the purchasing public!
