All the lonely people, where do they all come from

Beautiful 17 year old Haruka, fatherless, emotionally lost, and lonely since early childhood, is kidnapped by a sexually desperate middle aged school teacher. He imprisons her in his small apartment and attempts to rape her. Though frightened, she easily rebuffs his initial feeble assaults. Over time however, the void in Haruka becomes filled and she grows accustomed to life as his captive. Slowly, her relationship with him evolves into a perverse erotic liaison. Thereafter, despite ample opportunities for escape and freedom, she stays; continuing to give herself freely and even lusting for her captor who had become the companion merged with a father that she had so longed for.
The story touches your heart like Eleanor Rigby, the character from a Beatles song "all the lonely people." I found the story to be interesting, the acting good, the dialog to be spartan yet effective. There really is not many other people in this movie except for the brief almost cameos of bit players. This wholly and effectively conveys the emptiness in the lives of the two main characters. The tiny apartment used as a set further evokes an unsettling claustrophobia that is, in a fashion, comforting to the two. Even on trips outside of the rat cage apartment, it's through areas almost devoid of life, amplifying the need they have in each other. Ultimately, on the run, their story comes to a conclusion on a deserted side road, where cars, or life as it were, whizzes by them on the main road, without a glance. |
