In the book of Exodus, the ten biblical plagues were God's punishment to Egypt in order to make the pharaoh free the Israelites. In The Reaping, the plagues come to a southern town in the bible belt. After the deaths of her daughter and husband, former missionary Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank) turned away from her faith and instead made a career out of debunking religious phenomena. Her latest case brings her to the quiet Louisiana town of Haven, which turns out to be anything but. Katherine has come to investigate a report that the waters of the town river turned into blood after the death of a local boy. After she arrives, the plagues continue to fall upon the town, one by one, and Katherine gradually uncovers the shocking secret behind the biblical horrors. Directed by Stephen Hopkins (The Life and Death of Peter Sellers) and starring Academy Award Best Actress Hilary Swank, this religiously themed horror is intriguing, suspenseful, and bloodcurdling, delving into the wrath of God and primal evil.
