YesAsia Editorial Description

Taiwan superstar Jay Chou and top model Lin Chi Ling (Red Cliff) embark on the adventure of a lifetime in the tomb-raiding action fantasy The Treasure Hunter. Directed by Kevin Chu who earlier worked with Jay Chou on Kung Fu Dunk, The Treasure Hunter is an eclectic mix of Indiana Jones, The Mummy, spaghetti western, and martial arts adventure, with thrilling action scenes choreographed by Ching Siu Tung. Acclaimed actors Chen Daoming (Hero) and Eric Tsang (Infernal Affairs) are along for the ride as tomb raiders with agendas of their own.

Legend has it that in the deserts of northwest China lies a tomb of unspeakable riches protected by an army of mysterious guardians. Novelist Lan Ting (Lin Chi Ling), whose father is the keeper of the treasure map, gets abducted to the deserts by a group of tomb raiders led by Pork Rib (Eric Tsang) and Hua (Chen Daoming). Her father's student, bounty hunter Ciao Fei (Jay Chou), comes with the map in exchange for her release, but other opportunists and the guardian army show up to join the fight. Chaos breaks out as news of the treasure map spreads, and everyone rushes into the desert. Feuding couple Ciao Fei and Lan Ting, as well as Pork Rib and Hua, all head out to find the legendary tomb and the treasures - and dangers - that lie beneath the sands.

poor effort but better than kungfu dunk. Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
This is hong kongs answer to indiana jones and it does not shy away from it in fact its main character apes the harrison fords character but with less charisma. here jay chou gives one of his blanded and most bored performances granted that he hasnt actually really shown any exceptional acting talents in the past.

what ever plot there is, it is apallingly crafted together - characters are not established enough for audiences to care and relationship between them is scarce yet they try to convince audiences that there is more to it than there is. in fact a lot of characters add nothing to the over all plot but are in all actuality more interesting than jay chou's character. the director tends to mention one element but then a few minutes later ignores the whole thing, example - Jay mentions an open land of poisonious air that is impossible to traverse but next scene we witness them crossing the land??? there are lot of pointless moments that add nothing to the proceedings.

as mentioned before Jay chou lacks any emotion and is verging on horrible, Lin chi ling fairs better with her performance but she is regulated to a flower vase role, Eric tsang and chen dao ming do a good job as well but as far as characters go they have nothing to add to the picture.

fight scenes lack any intensity, there is never any danger during the fights and they look comical with the heavy usage of wire work and hovering in the air. there is some decent choreography but overall it is all familiar material. most impressive though is Lin chi ling's fight where she handles the staff admirably, almost like a pro and even dropping into the splits.

CGI is also really well done but like with all CGI infested films from Hong Kong they tend to be the main selling point of a film and here it is no different because they sacrifice everything else.

compared to recent films such as kungfu cyborg, storm warriors and even kungfu dunk this is good stuff. the lowest of enjoyment can be had here but that is if you are really really easily pleased.

BAD! Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
Not sure how movies like this can be made. This rank among one of the worst movie I have ever seen! Bad acting through out! No plot, no story and terrible acting by all the actors. I'm not even sure what the story is about?! Don't waste your time watching this, don't buy this, and don't bother renting either. You'll just be wasting 1.5 hours of your life.

This movie is pretty bad... Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
Bad acting...

Jay Chou has some hits and misses. He's ok in Curse of Golden Flower, and the Secret. But his acting is really bad in Treasure Hunter.

To top that off, Lin Chi Ling can't act either. So you have the main actors who exchange a series of pathetic lines and acting skills.

The storyline is confusing and it seems like the director wanted to squeeze in as many sub-plots as possible. There is no distinct line where the main plot is going.

And yes, there are a few rip offs from Indiana Jones as well.

If I were you, I'd pass on this.
