Based on the Chinese fantasy BL novel Mo Dao Zu Shi by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, The Untamed was China's most sensational drama series of 2019. Singer-turned-actors Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo give breakout performances as the young heroes and soulmates of this fantasy action-adventure series with a heartrending relationship at its core.

After being gone for 16 years, Wei Wuxian (Xiao Zhan) is suddenly brought back to life in a new body through spirit summoning. Despite his new identity, he is soon recognized by his old friend, Lan Wangji (Wang Yibo). Back in their younger days, the free-spirited and happy-go-lucky Wuxian met Wangji when he attended lessons at the Lan clan's compound. Solemn, reserved and a stickler for rules, Wangji seemed to be the polar opposite of Wuxian, but the two gradually developed a deep bond as they embarked on adventures and fought against the tyranny of the Wen clan together. However, the principled but unbridled Wuxian would eventually go down a different path of cultivation in the dark arts that put him at odds with the mainstream. The rift grew and deepened until one fateful night of devastating consequences.

【あらすじ】
行く道は違えど、同じ義に生きる。

五大世家(藍氏、江氏、聶氏、温氏、金氏)が世の秩序を治める中、快活で何ものにも縛られない自由奔放な魏無羨(ウェイ・ウーシエン)が無口で戒律を重んじ己にも厳しい藍忘機(ラン・ワンジー)に出会う。
そんな対照的な二人は、偶然にも藍氏の禁地へ足を踏み入れ、藍氏が代々守ってきた秘密を知る。
正義のため力を尽くすことを誓った二人は、共に事件を解決していくうちに、徐々に絆を強めていくが、魏無羨は罪を被せられ、断崖から身を投げそのまま消息を断ってしまうのだった。
その16年後、呪術によって再び蘇る魏無羨は藍忘機と再会した。二人は新たな事件の真相にたどりつくと、それが16年前の忌まわしい過去につながることに気づく…。
