A Hong Kong-Mainland co-production, The Virtuous Queen of Han is a highly-rated historical drama based on the life of Wei Zifu, who rose from humble beginnings to become the second longest-reigning empress in Chinese history.
Born into a poor family from which she was cast out at a young age, Wei Zifu (Wang Luodan, Dark Fragrance) has nevertheless grown into a gentle, considerate and intelligent woman, and she makes her living working as a servant in the household of Princess Pingyang (Niki Chow, The Book & The Sword), sister of Liu Che (Raymond Lam, Saving General Yang), Emperor Wu of Han. After a chance meeting, Wei Zifu and Liu Che build up a rapport, and Liu Che quickly brings Wei Zifu into the palace. Once in the palace, Wei Zifu finds herself feeling the wrath of wildly jealous sitting empress Chen A Jiao. The only person in her corner is Duan Hong (Xu Zhengxi, Pearl), one of Liu Che's personal guards who, in a twist of fate, is actually a childhood friend of Wei Zifu's, and has long harbored feelings for her.

Bad Subtitles

I ordered several items for my first YesAsia order, and this is the one item that makes me regret the money I spent. While the quality of the pictures are good, the English subtitles are horrible. I have read better fan-translated subtitles then the ones on this particular production of this drama. The subtitles lacked proper punctuation and grammar so it made it difficult to understand what was going if I hadn't already watched this drama online before. The DVD case also had no English summary on it like the other items I have purchased on this site, but was all in Thai. The title menus on the DVD were also in Thai as well, while on other items I have purchased, they were in English.
While this is a good drama, I strongly advise not to purchase the Thailand version of it because of the low quality English subtitles. |
