Zeze Takahisa (In the Wake) directs the film adaptation of Shigematsu Kiyoshi's renowned novel Tonbi, which was previously adapted into a TBS TV drama. Abe Hiroshi (In the Wake) and Kitamura Takumi (Tokyo Revengers) play father and son in this family story depicting the unchanging bond between parents and children against the passage of time.

For Yasuo (Abe Hiroshi) who grew up without parents, his greatest dream was always to have a family. He marries a woman he loves, and together they have a son named Akira. But Yasuo's hard-earned happiness is shattered by the untimely passing of his wife. With the help and encouragement of other people in town, Yasuo raises Akira (Kitamura Takumi) on his own. In his senior year of high school, Akira gets accepted to a university in Tokyo. Feeling the loneliness of separation, Yasuo pushes Akira away and tells him to not return until he's made something of himself. In 1988, father and son finally meet again after a long time.
