YesAsia Editorial Description
From the studio that brought us Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away comes the classic anime, Grave of the Fireflies. Set in post-war Japan, only a few weeks before the American occupation, director Isao Takahata's powerful anti-war masterpiece centers on the lives of two brave siblings, a fourteen year old boy named Seita and his four year old sister, Setsuko. With their father away serving in the imperial navy and their mother tragically killed in an air raid, the two children are forced to stay with their aunt, a cruel woman who proves to be a poor caregiver for the two children. After quarreling with their aunt, the two siblings leave the city and venture out on their own, eventually taking up residence in a cave-turned-abandoned bomb shelter. With no adults to turn to, the youngsters must depend solely on each other to survive. But it isn't long before their resources are exhausted, and Seita is forced into stealing so he can feed the starving Setsuko. And sadly, it seems his little sister is getting weaker by the moment. These dark times are illuminated only by the light of the fireflies.
Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka, this Studio Ghibli-produced film has been universally hailed as a classic since its 1988 release. The emotionally charged motion picture highlights the suffering endured by the innocent victims of war, a stunning portrayal that has resonated with audiences worldwide. Ultimately, Grave of the Fireflies is an unforgettable film, sure to bring even the most jaded audience to tears with its poignant tale of the horrors of war, and the children left behind in its wake.

Product without cover as advertised
I recently bought this bluray to my dissapointment. It’s my third bluray Ghibli silhouette series from YesAsia. I wanted a Cantonese version. I was disappointed to received this time without a slip cover like the previous ones I bought. It’s important to me because now I have an odd looking one. I wrote to Yes Asia and was told that they have reported the issue but can’t do anything at the moment. I hope they will replace the photo of their product save confusing the customers. |

An Unspoken Reality
The experiences of these two children represent what I called, the unspoken reality of war. For the people fortunate enough to not have gone through it, I suggest going through it with this film. Follow the little boy and girl and their candid eyes, squarely in your living room, as you experience what truly happens to the forgotten and innocent participants of war. I will never forget the opening sequence of the film, where the discarded candy container would unleash the sparkling memories of the brother and sister, as they once again would find each other, even in death. Perhaps all political leaders should view this film. Maybe we will have a better world as a result, one of peace. |

Depressing...
I watched this a long time ago and I remember crying because it was so sad... How two children at a very young age during the World War II lost their parents... As they strive to survive... they find many ways to live properly until the war is over... This anime shows the tragedy of the innocent people during the war. No matter what country attacks whoever, there are ALWAYS innocent people involve in every side. |

Graves of Fireflies
I saw this movie a couple of months ago (English version). Beautiful story, but sad... It brought tears to my eyes. It's a cartoon for grown-ups. it's a must-see, two-thumps up. I will buy the CD so I can see it again anytime I want. |

excellent film but sad as well
i seen this film when i was a little girl and i can only remember some of it , it is very sad story and that it was set in ww2 in a japanese war this story is very sad i tell you why! there are these 2 kids, a 14 year old boy named seita and his little sister named setsuko she is only 4 year old in the begining it shows seita died at the train station and then at the start it show's you how it all started by going back in time. it all started in world war 2 where you see that they set in a japanese family in a japanese house it was night setsuko could not sleep so seita made her fall alsleep by walking her out the garden and when they got back it was in a war and the next day seita hide every thing in the back garden they had to split up from home seita and sestuko had no where eles to go and they had to spilt up from their parents and that setuko ask how is mum and dad doing seita sad worry ourselves when t seita and setsuko when they went to school as a hospital t setia didn't know his mum was very ill, so setia decide not to tell his little sister incase she will get upset and his dad was workin abored a japanese ship caption that has already died ! After their mum died they live their auntie their Aunite was very nasty beacuse his aunite said when you are 14 you are suppose to work at the time and so the seita decide to live home with setsuko so they ask this man can he work for him he said yes only for a few days beacuse he was had less money and less rice after the boy got some money he would go to a shop to buy some rice then They were very poor, one day he was walk along the pathroad when he saw a sweet pack it was made out of tin and he shake the tin it something that was in japanese had some noise it had some sweet so he give to his sister and when ever they had a war comin they used to nick people food and belonging and whenever it was dark or when his sister used to cry he always give her a sweet to stop her from crying. They thought it would work out but it didn't. The best part when they live alone they made a tent with his sister and capture all the light files " think that what you call it" and put them in a jar and put it in the tent and it will glow in the tent " now how cool is that! hoping to do it if i get a chance beacuse i live in the uk and in the uk they don;t have any light files maybe when iam on a hoilday or something " the boy would that about his father beacuse his father is a captain of the japanese caption" sad part- crying " setia work and work till he worked when he came back from work his sister setsuko was very ill and after a few days she died the seita had no one else and had no where to go sad at the end he died but a excellent film and it won best Japanese Animation film cannot remeber the data . iam hoping to buy this film when iam older still a bit too young to buy it hope i buy it in a few years time since it is a excellent film Tomb of Firefiles is excellent film hayto is the best japanese manga if you dunno what is manga, manga is a japanese drawing |
