YesAsia Editorial Description

If your feet are cold, your heart stays warm...

Rising stars Park Shin Hye and Lee Wan first appeared on the small screen together in 2003 as Choi Ji Woo and Shin Hyun Jun's younger counterparts in Stairway to Heaven. Though they only featured for the first few episodes, the two young actors left a deep impression on viewers with their debut performances, and have since become stars in their own right. In 2006, director Lee Jang Soo followed up Stairway to Heaven with Tree of Heaven, this time with Lee Wan and Park Shin Hye as the leads.

Co-produced with a Japanese production company, Tree of Heaven was shot completely in Japan, and features a cast of both Korean and Japanese actors. Park Shin Hye and Lee Wan received a lot of praise for mastering their Japanese dialogue, and the drama significantly raised their international profile when it was aired in Japan. A picture-perfect Korean Wave drama in every sense, Tree of Heaven follows a heartwrenching romance born in the beautiful snowscape of Japan.

Bright and optimistic Japanese teenager Hana (Park Shin Hye) lives at a small hot springs inn owned by her mother. When her mother decides to marry a Korean man, she tries her best to reach out to her odd, introverted stepbrother-to-be Yun Suh (Lee Wan), who likes to walk barefoot in the snow. He rebuffs her initial efforts, but her cheer eventually wins him over. With their parents on honeymoon, Hana and Yun Suh stand up to Hana's spiteful aunt (Chung Kim) and cousin Maya (Asami Reina) together, and the two develop an increasingly close relationship over time. Yun Suh is forward in his love for Hana, but despite feeling the same way, she cannot accept a sibling romance. After graduating high school, she leaves for Tokyo with her admirer Asahi Uchida (Fujiwara Ryu), and loses contact with Yun Suh. Years later, Hana, Yun Suh, and Maya meet again. Time has led them down very different roads, but the love and the rivalry remain the same.

"A brand new Korean Wave maker... a heart-wrenching love story"
- The Korea Herald

For fans of Stairway to Heaven and Winter Sonata, the next must-see Korean television series is Tree of Heaven. Filmed entirely in Japan and directed by the director of Stairway to Heaven, Tree of Heaven is the epitome of a Korean romantic melodrama, complete with beautiful scenery and a top-selling musical soundtrack.

A lonely young man walking barefoot in the snow. That is Hana's (Park Shin-Hye, You’re Beautiful, Stairway to Heaven) first memory of her Korean stepbrother Yoon-seo (Lee Wan, Stairway to Heaven) when he shows up at her family's inn. Hana determinedly learns Korean to reach out to Yoon-seo, who closed himself off after his mother's death. Over time, the two develop a bond, but tragedy cuts their love short. Going their separate ways, they meet again two years later in Tokyo, where their impossible love story continues...

I cry every single time Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Before I purchased this series, I asked an elderly gentleman owner of a Japanese Video Rental if he has seen this series and he said, "Oh, I cried and cried!" A-ha! That's all I needed to hear besides reading other reviews about Tree of Heaven.

Truly, I have cried my eyes out watching other series before, but this one? This one takes the cake! Lee Wan is an actor who's acting abilities make you sympathize (and even on some levels, actually empathize) with his character so easily that it's hard to NOT fall in love with his character of Yoon-seo. Honestly, no matter how many times I have watched this series from beginning to end, I still cry.

Beautifully breathtaking background of the snowy area of Japan.

I have all of the music stuck in my head that I really need to buy the OST of this series.

Touching Show Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The Tree of Heaven was recommended to me by some friends who know how much I love Korean Drama. This show is very interesting. It has all the classic heartwrenching drama I was looking for. I went through the range of emotions as they did. I liked mixed languanges of Japanese and Korean and the interactions between the characters. The views of Japan was excellent as well. I am going to buy the OST next. The music tied everything together.

original sound track Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I am very pleased with the original sound track CD. The booklet it came with had lovely pictures of Park Shin Hye and Lee Wan. The music and songs went perfect with the story. It could still bring tears to my eyes when I listened and more touched as I knew how the story went. I would look forward to see more of Park and Lee Wan,they were so natural ,very good actors. And I must said the insertion of little dialogues in the sound track were clever and effective.I thoroughtly enjoyed the drama and the OST, just wished that the ending was less cruel.

Awsome Drama Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I really liked this drama by the way...the ending could've been better but it is still worth watching. I got two my little brother and sister by the age of 12 and 13 stayed up and finish it with me within a day and they loved it, too. They both thought it was better than snow queen. I bought mine from PMP Entertainment and picture/subtitle is an A quality. The ost is also great!
