Former journalist Sheldon (Bosco Wong) and his buddies Sean (Edwin Siu) and Tim (Louis Cheung) are both best friends and great business partners, forming the noted "iron triangle" of public relations firm The Rainmakers. The three each have their own strengths in work, but harbor different views and ambitions that increasingly diverge when the wealthy Koo family takes over the firm. As the daughter of tycoon Koo's mistress, Sean's wife Max (Priscilla Wong) resents having to defer to her older half-sister (Alice Chan) and worries about her hapless younger brother Ted (Luk Wing). To help Ted grow and to impress their father, Max acquires The Rainmakers and places her brother in a position to excel through the assistance and expertise of Sheldon, Sean and Tim.

Seeing through Max's power play, Sheldon sets out to not only transform Ted into the successful young business heir of public imagination, but also to transform himself into the kingmaker who holds the real power over Ted. However, the higher Sheldon climbs towards the "heaven" of wealth and social status, the more he loses in family, love and friendship.
