YesAsia Editorial Description

One of the most enjoyable Sammo Hung vehicles from the eighties, Where's Officer Tuba pairs the great rotund one with superstar singer Jacky Cheung. The two play mismatched cops who team up to avenge the death of another cop played by Shaw Brothers legend David Chiang. Tuba (Sammo Hung) is a shy, somewhat cowardly cop who would rather play his tuba in the police brass band instead of busting criminal heads. Superintendent Chiang (David Chiang) hires Tuba for an undercover sting, but the plan goes awry, ending up in Chiang's death. As he's dying, he makes Tuba swear to take revenge. Then, when Tuba doesn't do anything, he returns as a ghost to haunt Tuba into taking action! Can Tuba's not-so-friendly guardian angel help him rout the bad guys, plus win the heart of the lovely Joey Wong?

Where's Officer Tuba presents Sammo Hung in one of his most agreeable screen personas as a likable, shy buffoon who can win the heart of a pretty girl through sheer sincerity. Hung is no slouch when it comes to fighting scenes either, and he mixes it up with a variety of foes, including Hwang Jang Lee (Iron Angels) and Yuen Wah (Kung Fu Hustle), in some classic screen fighting encounters. Jacky Cheung impresses in one of his first roles, and he and Hung make a surprisingly able cop comedy duo. Where's Officer Tuba is usually not mentioned alongside other Sammo Hung films like Eastern Condors or Millionaire's Express as one of his classics, but it's a fun and rousing crowd-pleaser loaded with action, comedy, and eighties Hong Kong Cinema charm.

Enjoyable Sammo Hung Actionier Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Where's Officer Tuba is a film about a Tuba Player in the RHKPD (Played by Sammo of Course!) who lives with an enthusiastic young cop who is eager to make his mark in the police force (Jacky Cheung in his first acting Role).

Late one night, a veteran police officer is killed in the line of duty, and our reluctant hero Sammo is witness to the murder. Before he dies, the Officer (Shaw Veteran David Chiang) makes Sammo swear to avenge his death and bring the crooks to justice, Sammo agrees, but has no intention of doing so, which greatly displeases both Eager Police cadet Cheung and the ghost of the deceased policeman!

The Ghost decides to force Sammo into action by making his life a living hell. In a series of very funny comic scenes, the Ghost manages to Ruin Sammo's career and his love life before he is pressed into action, which as you can expect from someone like Sammo, means a thrilling end fight sequence, this time taking place in a fruit Market.

While not Sammo's best film, The comedy and Action in this film is very Enjoyable and Highly Recommended for Sammo Fans. Also, look out for a Brief Cameo by Lam Ching Ying in his Vampire-Fighting Outfit from Mr. Vampire.

Jacky Cheung's First Film Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
A humorous film to watch and it's Jacky's debut film. Watch him collaborate with Samo Hung and Joey Wang. The acting sparks!
