YesAsia Editorial Description

Waterboys and Swing Girls director Yaguchi Shinobu takes you into the woods of Japan in Wood Job!, a hilarious comedy about the transformation of one young man from city slacker to a man of the woods. Sometani Shota (The Eternal Zero) stars as Yuki, a student who just failed his university entrance exam. After seeing a recruitment ad for a one-year forestry work program featuring a pretty woman (Nagasawa Masami), he decides to join the program to kill time before retaking the exams. However, Yuki arrives in the woods to discover that Naoki, the girl on the ad, is not the cute woman he expected. Even worse, forestry work is a dangerous profession that is devoid of the modern comforts he's used to enjoying. After some tough love from his new supervisor (Ito Hideaki) and his friendly neighbors in the village, Yuki comes to embrace the woods and become a man of the mountains.

This edition includes audio commentaries, making of, stage events, interviews, a booklet and trailers. Initial press also comes with a chainsaw key holder, only available while supplies last.

Good job! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
If one wished to criticize 'Wood Job', one might describe it as formulaic. It definitely is. And yet film formulas become familiar because, when well-executed, they create very watchable movies. Believe me, 'Wood Job' is much more than just watchable. It is a joy.

City boy Yuki (Sometani Shota) is a bit of a loser. He just likes to goof off with his buddies, and doesn't like to take anything too seriously. Unfortunately, the consequence of his inaction is that he has just failed his university entrance exam. His friends encourage him to hit the books and try again next year, but that prospect holds no appeal for him. He sees a pamphlet for a forestry program which features a beautiful young woman (Nagasawa Masami) on its cover. He figures that hanging out in the woods with pretty babes like this one beats burying his nose in books, so, on the spur of the moment, off he goes for forestry.

When he arrives at his destination, he is utterly unprepared for what he encounters. These are hardy, serious manly men who know that one mistake in their work could cost them their lives. Yuki will either have to shape up or catch the next train home. He's all set to choose the latter course, when he lays eyes on the pretty lass from the pamphlet...

'Wood Job' proves to be a refreshing story of men in nature which ennobles the hard-working loggers and the women who support them. It is told with delightful, laugh-out-loud humor. Sometani Shota does a wonderful job of showing his character's growth through the rigors of his hard and dangerous work and his interactions with the honest, unassuming mountain folks. Yes, 'Wood Job' is formulaic, but, boy, does this formula work!
