YesAsia Editorial Description

Arashi's Ninomiya Kazunari and Sakurai Sho star in the TBS drama Yamada Taro Monogatari! Based on Ai Morinaga's popular manga, Yamada Taro Monogatari revolves around the hilarious misadventures of a poor, but princely high school student. The story was previously adapted into a Taiwanese drama in 2001 with F4's Vic Chou in the starring role, and now it finally comes to Japanese television. Lead Ninomiya Kazunari has been gaining a lot of attention for his acting in recent years, and he brings his down-to-earth charm to this fun and heartwarming series. Other than the Arashi boys, the drama also features SOPHIA vocalist Matsuoka Mitsuru as Taro's father and Kikuchi Momoko, taking her first drama role in 13 years, as the mother.

A student at the elite Ichinomiya High School, Yamada Taro (Ninomiya Kazunari) is handsome, smart, and athletic, and seems to effortlessly exude a princely air. Naturally, everyone assumes that he must come from a wealthy, privileged background. In reality, Taro is the oldest son in a very poor family. He lives in a small, rundown house with six siblings and a flighty mother (Kikuchi Momoko) who is completely clueless about money. Everyday, Taro has to work hard and stretch his mind to earn money to support the family, leading to many comedic situations. Luckily, his wealthy friend Takuya (Sakurai Sho) is always willing to help him out.

A feel - good series that I love Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I haven`t actually received my 12 - VCD box set of YTM as yet, but I`ve watched it online and thus I am able to heartily recommend your purchase of this drama. It`s one of the sweetest series I`ve ever watched, totally and absolutely heartwarming as it is. It never becomes sugary or sentimental, though, it`s too funny for that with a lot of cartoon - like moments (such as the hallway at Taro`s school starting to rumble and shake as he picks up speed to catch up with the student who takes off with his bento box) that shake things up whenever they get too cutsey for some.
At first I thought it`s not as good as Hana Yori Dango, which I recently finished, but now I feel it`s sorta better because it has a more even pace and does not rely on shock effects and cliffhangers as much. Nino can do ever so much with that sad little smile of his, and after a few episodes, he had me hooked on his character. He is totally believable. Sho acts really well and has an awesome presence as well as a depth to his acting that maybe this sort of series does not require but which truly enhances it. So please give this series a chance. There are few things on TV nowadays that will leave a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart, but trust me, Yamada Taro Monogatari will.
