Aozora (Japan Version)
Bright yet blue

Just based on the title and visuals of aiko's single Aozora, one would probably expect it to be a bright and sunny song fitting of its lovely "Blue Sky." The song's melody, as well, is light in rhythm and tone with a soothingly refreshing arrangement that creates a chipper feeling. However, the singer-songwriter's lyrics tell a different story about looking back with mixed feelings on a love that has ended – that blue sky is distorted and invisible before teary, unfocused eyes. Rather than being bright and blue, Aozora is bright yet blue.

The single's new B-side, Koibito Doshi ni (Track 3), is also a light-sounding confection of love and worries, but it reaches a more rose-tinted conclusion. The disarmingly simple and charming song, with its adorable declarations of "me and you are lovers," emphasizes aiko's pure child-like singing. The playful piano melody is sprinkled with chirpy beats and whistling sounds that echo the song's innocent sentiments for that reassuring presence who can make you not think about the clouds.

aiko's 2019 digital single Ai Shita Hi (Track 2), the theme song of the TV Asahi drama WATAOJI My Middle-aged Guardian Angel, also makes it onto this single, and it fits in nicely both in sound and theme between the new tracks. The song sets up a gentle contrast of slow and lingering vocals over lively piano notes and drums. While filled with longing, Ai Shita Hi expresses the calm and tender feelings of a heart that looks upwards on a fine and sunny day.
