Looking through CLC's discography, they've made quite a few concept changes over the past years. In their recent comebacks, they've started to stick to more of a "girl crush" style of fashion and music. This time, CLC shows their ambition to follow their hearts and make it to the top in the fiery single Helicopter
Produced by hitmakers Hyuk Shin, Melanie Fontana and Michel Schulz, Helicopter (Track 1) is a mix of trap pop and EDM powerhouse beats. The song's lyrics channel their aspiration as singers and as a group ("I go up, helicopter. Then I make hella noise for the take off. I go up, helicopter. Never give up, ooh like a pilot"). While going through all the obstacles and challenges, they still look forward to the future of their never-ending music journey. Seung Yeon, Sorn and Elkie lead the pre-chorus and chorus parts with their unique vocal timbres. Yu Jin's soft and cute voice unexpectedly suits her part really well, and Eun Bin has improved a lot on her rapping tone. And let's not forget about Seung Hee's high notes – her singing is strong and clear in a way that's not grating or straining. As much as I love CLC's "pure" concepts, they're definitely nailing their powerful, chic and stylish songs.
The English version (Track 2) of Helicopter is also in the single album. Compared to the Korean lyrics, the English version is definitely bolder and more straightforward in voicing their situation and feelings. Ye Eun's rapping surprisingly sounds very smooth even in English.
While making their first comeback in a year, CLC also surprised fans with an updated group logo and new official color. I truly hope Helicopter marks a refreshing turning point in their journey to the top!
