In recent years, many K-pop idols have started solo careers but only a few can really stand alone as successful soloists. Stripping away Girls' Generation's dance pop style, Tae Yeon has explored many different genres since her solo debut I. The songstress impresses fans again with her first full-length album My Voice, which features an incredibly wide range of music styles – including not just pop ballad and R&B, but also avant-garde styles like alternative pop, PB R&B and tropical house.

The acoustic guitar introduction of the title track Fine (Track 1) creates a similar vibe to I. Crooning in a subdued tone along calm guitar tunes, Tae Yeon perfectly portrays the inner struggle of a heartbroken girl who pretends to be strong after breakup. The gently restrained verse gives way to an emotive chorus where the protagonist breaks down in a desperate cry of not being fine. From the instrumentation to the lyrics and the singer's vocal delivery, Fine vividly expresses the complex feelings in a broken relationship. The alternative pop jam also offers a sharp contrast to the anthemic "Feel So Fine" (Track 3), which encourages people to overcome their painful past and fly towards a bright future.

The atmospheric urban R&B-inspired I Got Love (Track 4) is so far the most sensual track from Tae Yeon. The mysterious synth effects, heartbeat-like bass drum beats and occasional snare drum rolls work well with Tae Yeon's seductive vocals and embellish the song with a sense of anxiety. The alluring dynamic of I Got Love is maintained in the jazz-rock fusion I'm OK (Track 5), which exudes a cool road trip vibe. Showing a tough side that is rarely seen in her previous songs, the singer makes a confident statement that she is okay and will strive for her dreams despite the pain of separation. Tae Yeon gives off the charms of an independent woman through her strong and confident vocals which blend seamlessly with the heavy drum beats, bluesy electric guitar riffs and blaring brass melody. This gritty style is further solidified in the brass-fueled R&B jam Eraser (Track 12), where the singer explores rap to give full vent to the song's anger.

My Voice aims to showcase Tae Yeon's remarkable vocal versatility. Though her previous releases share the same album concept, My Voice places greater emphasis on the singer's soaring high notes which can be found in almost every song in the album. Despite lacking a consistent tone and style, My Voice is an impressive album that demonstrates Tae Yeon's unlimited vocal possibilities and establishes her as a new generation K-pop diva.
