Hospital Playlist OST (Kihno KiT Album) (Random Version)
A trip down memory lane

Two years after Prison Playbook and four years after Reply 1988, we finally get to watch another masterpiece created by director Shin Won Ho and screenwriter Lee Woo Jung – Hospital Playlist! It's the same formula, rhythm and vibe as their previous series, but one never gets bored of the warm stories that resonate, the witty lines that make us laugh, and the viral original soundtrack that gets stuck in our heads.

The slice-of-life comedy-drama is about five old friends who start to work in the same hospital, and how their friendship continues to bloom in their 40s. Besides starring in the drama, the five leads each picked up a musical instrument in order to form a band in the series, with Jo Jung Suk as main vocalist and guitarist, Yoo Yeon Seok as drummer, Jung Kyung Ho as guitarist, Kim Dae Myung as keyboardist, and Jeon Mi Do as bassist. While most of them started from zero, Jo Jung Suk, who is also a musical actor, slays at playing guitar and singing stably at the same time.

The drama's band performs rearranged versions of classic songs from the 90s and early 2000s. They shine with covers of Crying Nut's "Oh! What a Shiny Night" and even the classic Canon. All five of the stars took part in singing this season's wrap-up song "Me to You, You to Me," which was transformed from a folkish rock number to a rather soft and sweet tune. Jo Jung Suk's "Aroha" and Jeon Mi Do's "I Knew I Love" also found their way into listeners' hearts with lyrics that connect to their characters, not to mention the catchy and recognizable melodies. Though I'm not a K-pop fan from that era, I can still feel the nostalgia when jamming to the soundtrack.

Most of the other songs in the soundtrack, including Joy's "Introduce Me a Good Person," Kyu Hyun's "Confession is Not Flashy," Urban Zakapa's "Beautiful My Love," Whee In's "With My Tears" and Kwon Jin Ah's Lonely Night, also secured spots on digital music charts, proving the popularity of both the drama and the OST. It's a pity that the band version of "Confession is Not Flashy" is not included in this album, but never mind, I'll continue to hope for more singing parts for Yoo Yeon Seok in the following seasons!

The Hospital Playlist OST comes in a mini boxset with a number of goods that are totally worth collecting. There is a lyrics photobook with on-set photos, a Polaroid card set of the OST singers, a mini standee of the five main characters, an ID photo set, a random hospital access card and a sticker sheet (that I would never actually use). While waiting endlessly for season 2, you can count down the days with the calendar postcards printed with still cuts. If you're a fan of the drama, you're sure to like this set of collectibles!

Hospital Playlist is truly one of the best dramas of the year so far. The story doesn't have any dramatic ups and downs, but it’s just so very enjoyable and pleasant to watch. It not only heals viewers with the warm stories of the protagonists, but also evokes nostalgic sentiments with its warm OST.
