BEST-SELLING CHINESE MOVIES

Action was the name of the game in 2013, as the genre dominated the chart with six films. Wong Kar Wai's highly anticipated epic The Grandmaster was the top film of year, showing that the auteur is still a huge draw for audiences worldwide. Popular Hong Kong stars Jackie Chan, Andy Lau and Stephen Chow also remained big names, though young stars show it's their time for the spotlight with The Guillotines, Saving General Yang and Tai Chi Hero landing on the chart.

BEST-SELLING JAPANESE MOVIES

Animation once again dominated the Japanese movie bestseller chart in 2013 with animated films taking up six of the top ten spots. Rurouni Kenshin fans clearly looked forward to seeing their favorite swordsman in live-action, as the popular manga series' first feature became the best-selling Japanese film. Studio Ghibli remained a favorite of film fans, with three of the studio's remastered Blu-rays landing on the list. Helter Skelter, Sawajiri Erika's return to the film world, also aroused the curiosity of many, becoming the second best-selling live-action film on the list.

BEST-SELLING KOREAN MOVIES

Korea's highest-grossing film of all time The Thieves fittingly also made off with the top spot on our Korean movie bestsellers. It's joined by other star-driven big players like A Werewolf Boy, Berlin File, Masquerade and Tower, all of which pulled in over five million admissions at the Korean box office. Besides the obvious blockbuster suspects, films with idol leads – Kim Jae Joong's hitman comedy Code Name: Jackal and Rain's aerial actioner R2B: Return to Base sold particularly well – while Confession of Murder and A Company Man nailed the crowd-pleasing cross-section of crime action genre with K-Drama heartthrobs.
