CHINESE TV BESTSELLERS

Chinese dramas took nine out of ten spots in 2016's top ten TV bestsellers, and of those, eight were Hong Kong TVB dramas. Period productions were particularly popular with The Last Healer in Forbidden City and Lord of Shanghai leading the way. Wayne Lai alone has three costume dramas in the top ten, and TVB's 2016 TV king and queen, Ruco Chan and Nancy Wu, also both have two works on the chart including the award-winning A Fist Within Four Walls. Acclaimed historical drama Nirvana in Fire came in eighth as the only Mainland China series in the top ten.

KOREAN TV BESTSELLERS

The romantic comedy She Was Pretty starring Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon emerged as the top-selling Korean drama of 2016, and the only K-Drama to make the overall top ten. Many other romcoms occupy the chart including Park Bo Young and Jo Jung Suk's supernatural hit Oh My Ghostess, Choi Ji Woo and Lee Sang Yoon's Twenty Again and returning bestsellers It's Okay, That's Love and You Who Came From the Stars, which were ranked third and fourth in 2015.

JAPANESE TV BESTSELLERS

The live-action Attack on Titan films were the best-selling Japanese movies of 2016, and dTV's Hangeki no Noroshi, a three-episode spinoff about the films' supporting characters, also came in first for Japanese dramas. Aka Medaka, a rakugo special drama starring Kitano Takeshi and Ninomiya Kazunari, ranked second, and the old Arashi variety show CxDxG no Arashi! appeared on the chart for yet another year. As a fan favorite and the rare J-Drama with English subtitles, the Itazura na Kiss series charted for the fourth consecutive year, claiming three spots in the top ten.
