World star
BTS continues to reign over our bestseller chart with their record-breaking
Map of the Soul: 7. NCT has been growing bigger globally, and this year
NCT 127 rises to #2 on our K-pop bestsellers list with
Neo Zone, while
NCT Dream enters the top ten for the first time.
Dreamcatcher and
Loona successfully guard their spots with their latest albums, and
IZ*ONE breaks into the top ten with
BLOOM*IZ. JYP artists
GOT7,
Stray Kids and
Twice secure three positions on the list, while
EXO's
Baek Hyun is the only solo artist to make it into the top 10.
Hit drama
The Untamed's original soundtrack handily takes the #1 position in the best-selling C-pop ranking, while the OST of Taiwan series
Someday or One Day also comes in at #10. Fast-rising boy group
WayV dominates with four releases in the top ten including their most recent
Awaken The World at #2 and debut album
Take Off at #9. The rest of the spots are occupied by Hong Kong singers, including our perennial bestseller
Sammi Cheng,
G.E.M.,
Juno Mak &
Kay Tse, and
Kayee Tam who enters the top ten for the first time at #8.
Korean group
Seventeen, whose
Happy Ending was our top-selling Japanese single in
2019, again tops Japanese music sales at the half-year mark with their most recent single.
Stray Kids make a huge debut with their first Japan single and best-of album coming in a close second and third.
NCT Dream and
ATEEZ's Japan debuts also make the cut, along with releases by
Dreamcatcher,
Super Junior and
BTS.
JO1, the group formed from
Produce 101 Japan, is the sole Japanese artist in the top ten with their debut single.
In a clash of the titans, Oscar winner
Parasite and the finale of the
Ip Man series tie for first place as the best-selling films in the first half of 2020.
Bong Joon Ho's sensational hit is the only Korean entry in the top ten, while
Donnie Yen sends the one-two punch of
Ip Man 4: The Finale and
Enter the Fat Dragon. Hong Kong's hardest-working duo,
Louis Koo and
Nick Cheung, fill the chart with their prolific output of crime thrillers: Koo's
A Witness out of the Blue, Cheung's
Bodies At Rest and
Guilt By Design, and their co-starring
Line Walker 2. Featuring new names both in front of and behind the camera, Taiwan horror
Detention more than makes the grade at #5. It's not all genre fare. Director
Heiward Mak and
Sammi Cheng's sensitive sisterhood drama
Fagara comes in fourth, and cineastes were happy to collect the 4K restored Blu-ray of
Hou Hsiao Hsien classic
Flowers of Shanghai.
Taiwan Choco TV's popular
HIStory series of gay romances is unstoppable with three titles in our top ten TV dramas. The two stories from its third season –
Make Our Days Count and last year's top seller
Trapped – are first and second, while 2018's
HIStory2 is still up there in sixth place. Also still around are the K-Drama hits
What's Wrong with Secretary Kim and
Goblin and the perennial Chinese period favorites
Nirvana in Fire and
Eternal Love. The 2019 fantasy suspense
Item at #6 is the newest Korean drama release on the list.
The best-selling Chinese books of the year so far are also a reflection of the most popular Chinese dramas.
Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's BL xianxia novel series
Mo Dao Zu Shi that inspired last year's sensational hit
The Untamed easily grabs the top two spots. Books from
HIStory3 and the romantic suspense
Someday or One Day take up four spots in the top ten. Prolific best-selling author
Yi Shu is well represented as usual with three of her most recent novels making the cut. Popular Hong Kong YouTuber
Martin rounds out the top ten with his cookbook.
