Making their Japanese debut in 2020,
Stray Kids stormed to the top of our Japan music bestsellers by claiming the top spots across the board. Besides having the top two albums and #1 single, the Korean boy band was the best-selling artist overall.
In their final year before hiatus, Arashi went strong with the top album and single among Japanese artists as well as the best-selling concert. The enduringly popular KinKi Kids are well represented with a group album, solo album, single and concert on the charts. Other Johnny's artists predictably appear including Hey! Say! JUMP, NEWS, newcomer SixTONES, and Kimura Takuya with his solo debut, not to mention the charity project unit Twenty★Twenty. Yonezu Kenshi and LiSA appear in the album bestsellers for the first time, while JO1 debuts with a splash on the album and single charts. Late actor Miura Haruma's posthumous single and 2019 single both made the top ten.
For Korean artists, Seventeen sold the most after Stray Kids. Besides their new album and single ranking in the top four, their 2019 single Happy Ending also stayed on the chart. Another holdover is NCT 127's album Awaken, which came in first in 2019 and sixth in 2020, right behind NCT Dream's first Japan release. Of course, BTS and Twice charted high with multiple entries, and ATEEZ announced their arrival with two albums in the top ten.
The below rankings are based on sales of Japan Version music releases on YesAsia.com from January 1 to December 31, 2020.
