CHINESE TV BESTSELLERS

In 2019, HIStory 3: Trapped was the top-selling drama of the year. In 2020, it dropped one spot and ceded the throne to… HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count. The popular Taiwan BL series nabbed a whopping three entries, and the 2016 gay youth drama Addicted also returned to the chart. Meanwhile, the BL-based period fantasy The Untamed starring Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo managed to crack the top ten, despite only being released on Japan Version Blu-ray. Surprisingly, the DVD release of 80s Hong Kong educational cartoon Professor Panda Says... made the list, suggesting that quarantine was a good time to teach the kids some Chinese idioms. Perennial favorites Nirvana in Fire and Eternal Love are still around, while the Hong Kong mini-series Stained and The Trading Floor round out the Chinese TV bestsellers.

KOREAN TV BESTSELLERS

2019's top two Korean dramas, Goblin and What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?, swapped positions in 2020, while Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo retained its #3 spot. Most of the top ten are older releases that appeared in the bestseller charts of past years, including two Ji Chang Wook dramas. The three new entries are fantasy mystery Item starring Ju Ji Hoon, the second season of crime mystery Partners for Justice, and the romantic drama Encounter starring Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum.

JAPANESE TV BESTSELLERS

TBS's hit medical romance series An Incurable Case of Love starring Satoh Takeru and Kamishiraishi Mone handily came in first as the best-selling Japanese drama of the year. CxDxG no Arashi! and Gintama: Mitsuba Hen returned to the list, and Itazura na Kiss - Love in Tokyo finally dropped out of the bestsellers after charting for seven straight years. Several SPs made the top ten, as well as installments from the HiGH & LOW series and the Jonetsu Tairiku documentary program.

THAI TV BESTSELLERS

We've added a new section for Thai dramas this year thanks to TharnType breaking into the overall top ten bestsellers at #5, affirming the increasing popularity of Thai idol BL dramas. The fan-favorite romance starring Mew and Gulf came in first ahead of Until We Meet Again and entries from the hit 2gether and SOTUS series.
