NCT 127 became our top-selling artist in Japanese music for the first time, thanks to the strong sales of their chart-topping album
Loveholic and their 2019 album
Awaken which has been in the top ten for three straight years. Though
Stray Kids slipped to second place, the group grabbed the #1 single spot and all three of their 2020 releases stayed in the top ten.
BTS's best-of album, which was Japan's best-selling album of 2021 according to the Oricon chart, came in second on the YesAsia chart. SHINee returned to the top ten with their first Japanese release in three years, while EXO's Baek Hyun ranked #6 on the top-selling artists list just on the power of his first Japanese album. Seventeen, Twice, ATEEZ and BLACKPINK continued to sell well, and the Japan debut singles of The Boyz, Loona and ENHYPEN all broke into the top ten.
Officially on hiatus starting in 2021, Arashi remained the only Japanese act in the top ten highest-selling artists, with their concert coming in first and their 2020 album continuing to chart. Utada Hikaru's EP of Evangelion theme songs was the highest-selling Japanese album by a Japanese artist. Disbanding in 2021, V6 sent their last two albums to the top ten, while KAT-TUN had the top single by a Japanese artist. They're joined by Johnny's labelmates KinKi Kids, Snow Man, SixTONES and Kis-My-Ft2. Hot new girl group NiziU claimed two top ten singles, while Tamaki Koji, Aimer and Band-Maid's albums entered our top ten for the first time.
