The below rankings are based on sales of movie, music and TV releases on YesAsia.com from January 1 to June 30, 2013. Sales of all editions and versions of the same title are summed up to determine the total sales and ranking of each title.
EXO topped C-pop sales last year with
MAMA (still charting), and they're well on their way to repeating the feat this year with
XOXO coming in first for the first half of 2013. Their SM Entertainment labelmate
Super Junior-M follows at second and
Jay Chou settles for third behind the K-pop crossovers. It's good times for Hong Kong actor-singer
Raymond Lam, whose compilation and concert both made the top ten. Diva
Sally Yeh and composer
Joseph Koo, meanwhile, represent the Canto-pop stars of yesteryear with their concert bestsellers.
Arashi takes back the throne in the first half of the year with their double A-side single
Calling/Breathless claiming the top spot in our J-pop bestseller list. The Johnny's group has two other releases on the chart, showing that they are still as popular as ever.
Super Junior also performed strongly, thanks to singles from subunits
Super Junior - K.R.Y. and
Dong Hae and Eun Hyuk. On the girls' side,
AKB48 and
T-ara both make the top ten with their latest singles.
Girls' Generation's
I Got a Boy leads K-pop sales as expected in the first half of 2013, while
Kim Jae Joong's solo debut comes in a close second.
SHINee's two-part release lands them two spots in the top ten and
Infinite also checks in twice. Last year's super rookies,
EXO and
B.A.P, are still going strong this year in the top five.
Wong Kar Wai's long-awaited martial arts film
The Grandmaster handily comes in first as the best-selling movie of 2013 thus far. Other big-budget Hong Kong-China co-productions populate the chart with period epics and action movies, and both
Stephen Chow and
Stephen Fung's directorial efforts make the cut. Korea's biggest movie of all time
The Thieves steals a spot at fifth – but that has Hong Kong stars, too.
Chinese films may dominate the big screen, but the small screen belongs to K-Dramas which take nine out of ten spots on the TV bestsellers chart.
Song Joong Ki's
The Innocent Man barely edges out
Lee Jun Ki's
Arang and the Magistrate and idol romance
For You In Full Blossom for first place. TVB's family comedy
Divas in Distress squeezes in at no. 10 as the sole Chinese drama on the list.
